Nioh 3 caestus makes me feel like I'm playing a fighting game and I am mashing buttons and it does cool stuff
(Well it's basically Nioh 2 fist weapon, but this time there is air combat)

The most difficult boss I met so far killed me like 6 times, many Nioh 2 bosses took me more than 10 attempts.

If you have played the other Nioh games, yes. It shares most of its mechanics and many enemies with the previous entries so you get used to it
If you are a beginner- kind of. The ninja mode is less complex, samurai mode is like Nioh 1 and 2 difficulty

I think the main story missions (marked by a yellow circle on the map) actually feel like Nioh 1/2, with closed areas with shirine and unlockable shortcuts. Especially after the first open map

I was thinking about Romancing Saga 2 when I wrote this. There is barely a scripted story, the player is free to beat the game in the order they want. It feels like the player is the one writing the story, each generation of character is an historical figure, and weapons are passed down through ages

As long as the game is fun you don't need a good story.
Also I think story is often misunderstood. In some games, your own adventure, the levels you explore, the atmosphere, the visuals... are part of the story, it's not just what you are being told through dialogues
