Today's Dahlia harvest is only my 3rd of the year, when I'd normally be up to around 10 by now. Weather looks OK for the coming week, so fingers crossed for more. Some still haven't flowered yet. #allotment#garden#dahlia
Glorious day today, with Pendeen and Hayle Estuary two of the highlights, and my first Curlew Sandpiper of the year, along with Chough, Spoonbill, Glossy Ibis, Red-necked Phalarope, Snow Bunting and Firecrest. #birds#cornwall
I've had this Alsroemeria 'Indian Summer' for 4 years and really struggled to get it established, having moved it several times. This is the first year it's looked happy when I moved it to the allotment. I can try removing chunks to my garden now. #garden#allotment#alsroemeria
I was really late starting my tomatoes this year, as my first lot all died from manure contaminated with herbicide. They are looking great, but it's a race against the frost for them to ripen. Hoping for an Indian summer. #allotment#tomato
I grew this Cobaea scandens from seed in February, and being a climber it has taken until now to flower. I was miffed when the flower first opened as it was cream, but within 2 days it turns rich purple. I'll be growing them every year I think. #garden#cobaeascandens
Our last day birding rewarded us with Mountain Peacock-pheasant and Silver-breasted Broadbill. We fly back home first thing in the morning. #birds#malaysia
Our last night proper is in a very unusual chateau type hotel in the mountains. Ferruginous Partridge performed along with adorable Squirrels. Big target tomorrow is Mountain Peacock-pheasant before we head back to Kuala Lumpur and then home. #birds#malaysia
Garnet Pitta wins Bird of the Day at Taman Negara today, with Green Broadbill in the running, and Prevost's Squirrel was very handsome. #birds#malaysia
Nuthatches is my favourite family of birds, so there was much joy and relief when we saw Blue Nuthatch at Fraser's Hill today after 3 days of searching. #birds#malaysia
A good morning at Fraser's Hill, including Sultan Tit, Silver-eared Mesia, and Chestnut-capped Laughingthrush. Photos are from my camcorder viewfinder. #birds#birding#frasershill#malaysia
My Dahlias have been really late to flower this year, so these are my first cut blooms. Most of them are still at least a week from flowering. #allotment#garden#dahlia
I think this is cyrtanthus elatus or Scarborough Lily. I've had it for about 20 years, and it has only flowered once before. Worth the wait! #houseplants#cyrtanthus
Had a big day out on Wednesday, including this handsome Collared Pratincole at Aldeburgh, where the sea breeze took the edge off the heat. The day was slightly marred by a 2 hr traffic jam trying to get onto the A14 at Ipswich. #birds#collaredpratincole
I'm starting to really appreciate Day Lilies. They are really reliable and seem to tolerate my dry sandy soil, so I feel the need to form a bit of a collection. #garden#daylily#hemerocallis
Happy to say I got home in time to see, and more importantly smell, my Cardiocrinum giganteum, as the fragrance is intoxicating. The flowers have had a bit of lily beetle and wind damage, but it was worth the 4 year wait. #garden#cardiocrinumgiganteum
Had a great walk from Glenmore over the Ryvoan Pass into Abernethy yesterday. There are fewer old trees than Deeside, but more diverse habitat. No.1 target was Crested Tit but also saw an Adder, a couple of Golden Eagles, and Chris Boardman on a mountain bike! #cairngorms
Currently up above the Ryvoan Pass lookin over to Bynack More and Cairngorm. 2 Golden Eagles just flew along the ridge ahead. This may be a very long coffee stop. #cairngorms
