You move swiftly past the neon motel sign, “no vacancy” lighting a blood red path for you as you examine the number on your keys and search for the corresponding room. It’s right at the end of the block.

You keep moving with your head down, ignoring the murmured heckles and jeers from the other guests sitting outside their rooms, smoking cigarettes and drinking beer.

Unease prickles the back of your neck as footsteps sound behind you. Without turning back you quicken your pace, focusing on reaching the blue door straight ahead.

When you reach it, you shove the key into the lock, open the door, slam it shut and deadlock it. Turning around, you find that instead of a drab motel room like you were expecting, it’s…
