After the death of Rob Reiner, I felt nostalgic for All in the Family episodes.
I grew up in a home with my father being a southern version of Archie Bunker. I was introduced to a lot of issues by the Meathead that appealed to my sense of justice. He was my first ‘influencer’.

Liberals who grew up around rightwingers had to *become* liberal. We had to learn, grow, and work through some frankly pretty embarrassing learned behaviors. So I think we're less likely to take liberal values for granted.
i was especially struck by these paragraphs, which rang very true to me. libs who grew up around conservatives aren't embarrassed to be liberals--or confused about what conservatives want. there's a certain kind of elite media man, on the other hand--
