using their propaganda against them to push ourselves and others into genuine progressive action is the closest way in which in any of us can be a Superman.
blueghoulie.bsky.social
so in that way, who cares what gunn or a zionist conglomerate says the movie is about. If you want Superman(2025) to be about Palestine, then YOU make it about Palestine. If we can transform their fencesitting slop into inspiration into real action, then we absolutely should use it

because collectively people are now so hyper aware of Israel's atrocities that people grafted our current climate onto this pretty centrist movie without a second thought and were genuinely uplifted by it.

been thinking about gunn's recent admission that superman was nothing about the genocide in gaza and i believe him,

this is a major hollywood blockbuster from WB of course it wasnt. But the beautiful thing is gunn's intent didnt matter. Everyone read it that way anyway, they were inspired by it-

deeply the goat im realising

didnt think much of it at the time but ending the movie on this joke is the perfect encapsulation of what i like about the FF. might have just fought a mind boggling extistential threat but still gotta brush their teeth the day after and more importantly are excited at that prospect just the same.

on top of that whole inital book just coming across as flying in the face of marvel wanting to "reinvent" their characters for the modern age.

this was definitely satire on some level

this has flipped me on ultimate cap i think Millar was on the same wavelength actually

also thanks @axodumdoodles.bsky.social for the springboard lil bro

so ig point is anytime you modernise his costume you're suddenly now entrenched more in the baggage of today's USA than a hero of a bygone era
blueghoulie.bsky.social
i mean he predates even america's involvement in WW2 by a few months. so in that way while displaying the flag proudly across his costume he's more initially tied to the average person's reaction to the evil's happening across the sea at the time, than like superman selling you war bonds
blueghoulie.bsky.social
post kinda got me to finish the thought ive had recently that captain AMERICA is obv always going to be hardcore propaganda but he has the ability to go above that only through the very specific era of US propaganda that birthed him, and how that's ever relevant to him

Cant wait for man of tomorrow to see clark tell braniac that these planets arent doomed, they only fail because they arent allowed to be human enough and thats earths greatest strength

the world does not need to constantly revolve around peter. I think the line is a decent payoff to her role in homecoming on top of the audience effect.
blueghoulie.bsky.social
i also just think the line works as a nice cap off to her mini arc in the film of being more involved with the people around her. Grown to the point of having a nickname now
blueghoulie.bsky.social
idk i think it works because its for the audience. Would feel forced if peter gave a bog reaction to that because why would it mean anything to him?
blueghoulie.bsky.social
now if only these spider-man fans knew what adaption meant they'd be open to a lot of fun ideas like this
blueghoulie.bsky.social
kinda good example of this is how they handle the MJ reveal in homecoming. You cant adapt the original gag of her existence into the jackpot line because we all know who MJ is, but having every basic trait be different to throw us off ends up giving the same effect of, "THAT'S MJ???!?!"
blueghoulie.bsky.social
Theres just not the same shock in the slightest because its not subverting anything anymore. Just becomes another story about somebody close to Peter dying and we have a billion of those. Its literally the first thing that happens to the character.
blueghoulie.bsky.social
so idk i just dont think you can apply that to film. For one, that story ensured that gwen stacy was primarily known as spider-man's girlfriend who died for decades. And even for a more casual audience they're just a lot more accustomed to the partner of the main character dying for drama.
