Danielle Smith is a coward.

She refused to negotiate in good faith with teachers, refused to end this strike by offering a fair deal, and, worst of all, she violated Albertans’ Charter rights without even showing up for debate.

Danielle Smith is using the notwithstanding clause to protect herself while crushing individuals' Charter rights.

That’s not freedom, that’s cowardice.

And Albertans won’t stand for it.

Between students, parents, teachers, and the UCP government, the Minister is the only one who isn’t doing his job.

Albertans have taken note and his constituents have had enough.

I hope that the Premier reconsiders her desire to invoke the “notwithstanding clause” in dealing with Teachers.

This very rarely used clause, stripping Canadians of civil rights, has no place in collective bargaining.

General strike would be a commensurate response.

Can you ...recall.. a worse Minister of Education?

Not that ... we can .. recall.

It’s confirmed: Danielle Smith will force teachers back to work, using the notwithstanding clause against workers for the first time in Alberta’s history.

The UCP’s license plates may say “Strong & Free” but their actions today clearly say they’re cowardly authoritarians.

Better is possible and it’s never been needed more. #abpoli
BREAKING:

Alberta will invoke Notwithstanding Clause on Bill 2, its legislation to force teachers back to work.
Despite what the #ucp keeps claiming most of Alberta's population growth came from people who moved from other provinces. Yet the government who ran a campaign called "Alberta is calling" now seems completely unprepared that these new people might have kids that need to go to school.
Good to see my MLA #rebeccaschulz in the legislature voting to steamroll over the constitutional rights of teachers because the government doesn't want to actually negotiate. Fun fact, there are 5 communities in Rebecca's riding that don't have an elementary school.

What's the hurry?

In just 6 years, the UCP has been responsible for nearly half of all time allocation motions in Alberta history.

They're promising to do it again today, this time ramming through a bill that removes Charter rights in a matter of hours.

Forcing teachers back to school without addressing any of their concerns is the biggest abuse of democratic rights in Alberta’s history.

Alberta’s New Democrats stand with teachers and unequivocally condemn this attack on public education, on workers and their unions, and democracy itself. /1

This strike has reminded parents how #teachers do critical work. They take care of kids & inspire our students & future leaders.

Danielle Smith must support #schools.

New Democrats oppose any back-to-work legislation that doesn't meet the call for more EAs & lower class sizes.

If the UCP has nothing to hide, they should release the report now.

Anything other than full disclosure proves exactly WHY we need a full public inquiry.
There are 51K teachers on strike in Alberta right now so our fearless leader #daniellesmith is holding a press conference about license plates

Reminder:

Bruce McAllister doesn’t respect Albertans.

The Premier knows this and is paying him $825,000 to berate citizens in these so-called “town halls.”

We deserve better.
Are you sure you’re listening? 🤨

Danielle Smith’s waste-of-taxpayer-money “Alberta Next” panels turned rowdy in Edmonton.

It’s clear they’re not interested in hearing from Albertans. The UCP just wants to continue to push their costly, destabilizing ideas on Alberta.

Naheed is right.

One tweet doesn’t make up for a summer of abusing Albertans while being paid handsomely with their tax dollars.

Danielle Smith needs to apologize & fire Bruce. #abpoli
Last night, Bruce McAllister, the voice of this government, suggested a young student be beaten after daring to ask about education funding and the teachers strike. /1
Disgraceful conduct by Bruce McCallister at last night's Alberta Next Panel in Calgary. @abdanielsmith.bsky.social and her bullies have no place in leadership. Silencing and threatening a citizen is cowardly. Evan deserves an apology.

Alberta’s New Democrats have also been hosting large town halls this summer.

We never cut off the microphone, and we welcomed everyone because we genuinely want to hear from citizens.

That’s what governments do.

Albertans deserve better.

Danielle Smith must make things right with the young student, starting with an apology of her own, and she needs to fire her second most senior official for his reprehensible conduct and relieve tax payers of his cushy $825K contract. /3
