CANADIANS!! The official petition started by a member of Parliament to fight back against payment processors' censorship of legal content is only open for a few more days. Make sure you've signed it: www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en...

It’s absolutely hilarious that no one gives a shit that, ooo, we’re testing the players’ bloodwork. People are more annoyed that normal people’s-who could have serious medical conditions-bloodwork has been delayed because someone decided that they were better than everyone else and paid for it. 2/2

I think I figured out how to explain why a two-tier healthcare system is bad in a way that makes sense to people. Let’s say a med lab has a contract to do a sports team’s pre-season bloodwork. Their stuff gets bumped to the front of the line to get processed first, because the team paid for it. 1/2

I was aware of a version of this cost markup thread from multiple ethical sustainable Canadian fashion brands’ social media posts. I have still had people telling me that it was “unreasonable” to expect people to pay $198 CAD for an ethical pair of pants when a mid-level pair of pants costs $90 CAD.

This two-parter below is exactly why it's hard to make clothes in the United States.

Let's look at how much it costs to produce a button-up shirt in the US. 🧵
Someone on Twitter replies to me: "meh. buy american or stfu."

Two hours later, in a separate thread, the write: "$30 for a single button-up is ridiculous unless it is decent quality silk."

My best friend made a meme of my younger cat with this exact phrasing on it because it’s true, lmao.

He’s actually super nice in real life. I met him at a convention once. And Eve Myles and John Barrowman. (I didn’t like Ianto enough to meet the actor but my friend and I went to the memorial in Cardiff. 🙈)

I applied for the comms job and got rejected without an interview. I was like, okay, sure. 🤷‍♀️ At the time but now I’m like, that might have been a good thing… (I’m now just in a fight at my current workplace with certain people who don’t even know it’s a fight yet.)

I would sometimes put people on hold for 10 minutes just to make sure that someone on my end understood what was happening before I transferred them, and I was usually thanked because I closed the fucking loop for them.

The fact that it’s the MP for Edmonton-Strathcona that started the petition makes me happy because she knows what’s up in Alberta.

The premier attends Trump events but we will do our best even if it means shutting down the healthcare system because part of it went on strike!
bookjunkie007.bsky.social
Alberta is strongly conservative-leaning and the premier frequently attends Trump events. 🙃 The teachers already went on strike and are getting locked out until at least October 23, and I think the med lab part of the healthcare system is still preparing to strike because the offer is garbage.
bookjunkie007.bsky.social
The provincial government is a shit show when it comes to healthcare (is there still 8+ scandals involving the healthcare system happening right now? I’ve lost track) and want to make it privatized like the US because that would apparently be more efficient. 🙄

I listened to Taylor Swift’s new album, and it made me want to go listen to Sabrina Carpenter, Miley Cyrus, and Chappell Roan instead after it was done. I don’t know if that was the intention.

The Familiar is an adult fantasy. I started with Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom, which is the Duology between the Shadow and Bone trilogy and King of Scars/Rule of Wolves. There’s also Ninth House/Hell Bent, which are adult fantasy.

Yep. I took a comms law class as a requirement for my comm studies degree, and it’s saved my ass SO many times. Easily the most useful course I had to take.

I’m trying to figure out whether there’s some sort of exercise I can do without fucking myself up. If I try to do Pilates again, I think I need to go to actual Pilates studios because when I did Pilates videos off of YouTube, my massage therapist hated me.

…I think they’re dead, rah.

Yukon and BC are usually paired together, and Alberta takes both NWT and Nunavut because of previous contracts before the healthcare system got flipped. But Alberta has a bunch of rapid response labs in the hospitals and there’s only a few labs that can do the more specialty testing.
bookjunkie007.bsky.social
I would get the students coming into our department during their practicum, and I would do a ramble of “we test for two-thirds of Alberta, NWT, Nunavut, parts of BC, parts of SK, and occasionally the Yukon” to help orient them with the amount of volume coming through. The look on their faces…

Is this it? And yeah, I’m not completely surprised about the lack of surveillance? Plus testing for some of this doesn’t happen in the territories because they don’t always have the equipment for it, so it has to get sent to a lab that CAN test for it. www.canada.ca/en/public-he...

Plus I didn’t have actual related archival experience because I was frontline healthcare, and I didn’t want to get into the program and realize that I actually hated it. The First Nations curriculum is the only one in Canada, I think, and I hope more schools start picking up on offering it.

Yeah, I didn’t think my application package would be strong enough because I would have only had half of the 6(?) publication credits that are attached to one of my things, a different academic journal publication credit, and a news story pub credit at the time the application materials were due.
