My OneDrive is about to burst at the seams! And I will neither confirm nor deny that this is all just Halo Infinite game clips 😅

I turned my phone off yesterday for most of the day because I finally replied to a text four days after receiving it, and knew it would result in a phone call from the recipient once they read it, which is a fate worse than death.

I'm not actually sure why I own a phone 😅

I'm ashamed to say I've not watched a single Horror film at all so far this October.

I must be coming down with something 😳

He always gave me the "ick" long before the allegations came out. I always just felt there was something off about him, like I couldn't put my finger on it, and it wasn't just because I didn't like the band.

Over the years, I've gone from feeling embarrassed of my #OCD diagnosis, to embracing it, and trying to help others understand how severe and debilitating the disorder can be, and that for sufferers, its not just a joke.

So ask me anything about my experiences.

I'm happy to share.

There are tons of resources online to learn more about OCD. I personally recommend a charity organisation I've supported for years, and who have helped me understand my disorder, OCD-UK.

There are treatments for #OCD, most commonly Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

#CBT aims to give sufferers the tools to cope with the anxiety and intrusive thoughts when it kicks in, with the aim of reducing the link between the anxiety and compulsive behaviour.

The consistent misrepresentation of #OCD is just one factor that leads to sufferers not being taken seriously, hiding their condition, and not seeking help for fear of humiliation.

When I once explained what #OCD actually was to a colleague, she called me a freak because my obsessions are weird.

So, what is the deal with the obsession with rules, schedules, symmetry, cleanliness, organisation, etc.?

For that, you could look at a similar but different condition, known as Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder, or #OCPD.

#OCPD is closer to the way in which #OCD is often misrepresented.

I also suffer Contamination Obsessions, mostly involving blood and raw meat. The anxiety of contamination from these things results in excessive hand and surface cleaning, and is usually triggered by physical contact with blood or raw meat.

It's a particular nightmare when I'm cooking...

I've even been known to walk all the way home from half way up the street after leaving my house because the overwhelming anxiety forces me to go back and check everything again. This especially occurs when my anxiety is exercerbated as a result of general stress.

As such, my compulsions predominately revolve around Checking. I will check the oven, hob, windows, doors, plug sockets, and so on, often multiple times over and over, as each time my brain says, "You didn't do it right..."

This can go on for a long time, only ending when it feels "right".

So, how do I know so much?

My obsessions revolve around death or harm to my loved ones through house fire, break-ins, assault etc.

I see vivid images, and it's always my fault.

I often joke that I know when someone means something to me because I've been to their funeral several times in my head.

The "D" in #OCD stands for Disorder.

A Disorder in its simplest definition is "an illness or condition that disrupts normal physical or mental functions".
boomstickflip.co.uk
The reason the compulsions only offer temporary release is because #OCD is cyclical.

The intrusive thoughts kick in, triggers the anxiety, the compulsions offer relief, but the intrusive thoughts will always come back, triggering anxiety, the compulsions, and so on.
boomstickflip.co.uk
The "C" in #OCD stands for Compulsive.

Compulsive Behaviour or Compulsive Acts can take many forms. Common categories are Counting, Checking, and Cleaning, and can often relate to the Obsession.

These compulsions will temporarily relieve the anxiety, but can even cause more anxiety.
boomstickflip.co.uk
The "O" in #OCD stands for Obsessive. This relates to the "Obsessions" sufferers have.

These obsessions come through as uncomfortable and unwanted intrusive thoughts that trigger an anxiety response.

The way sufferers deal with and relieve the anxiety, is through Compulsive Behaviour.

12th-18th October is #OCD Awareness Week.

For those who don't know, #OCD isn't a comical quirk where you like your pens in order and things to be symmetrical.

It is a debilitating anxiety disorder that for sufferers is not a laughing matter.

So what is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder?
