Last week, before Essen, I was at the Steinway factory in Hamburg, to help select three concert grands for the Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. 12 pianos to choose from :) This is one of those we all happily agreed on; gorgeous instrument – the phone mic of course doesn’t do it justice!

I understood from the technician that many people do change pianos and actions between pieces! Which is wonderful and an utter luxury ☺️
But I found a piano / actions combo I was 100% happy with.

First time at Queen Elizabeth Hall since the reopening – superb acoustic and two gorgeous pianos (with 4 actions!) to choose from.

Playing all 24 Rachmaninov preludes there on Sep 28th, part of the @southbankcentre.bsky.social opening week – one of my top-favourite programmes!

Practising at Castell Bellver (Palma de Mallorca) last night before the concert – a magnificent acoustic! You could play as softly as you would at home, and no note gets lost – while of course allowing space for the bigger dynamics and climaxes. Wonderful experience!
