Android’s new security screening feature is bad and I fucking hate it.
They wanted a mechanism for Google’s security team to block malicious developers.

Starting in 2026 and in select countries first, Android apps must be registered to a verified developer in order to be installed.

Yay! The 1.0.0 release of the version catalog update plugin is finally out! You don't need the dependency versions plugin anymore, some config and behavior has changed, but that results in more predictable output. Please upgrade and file issues if you find any!

Yay! The 1.0.0 release of the version catalog update plugin is finally out! You don't need the dependency versions plugin anymore, some config and behavior has changed, but that results in more predictable output. Please upgrade and file issues if you find any!

I never checked the download stats for my little plugin, but it's apparently getting close to 140k downloads a month on Maven Central 🤯
I don't think the Gradle Plugin portal is providing any stats so it could be a little bit more than that even.

I'm back at a project I worked on about 1.5 years ago. Multiple Android devs have come and gone (all of them AI specialists ✨) and none of them did any significant updates in terms of dependencies / Gradle etc.
