Wilds has one of the best new monster rosters to date and the wound system is very fun to play with. I can’t think of many highs that beat fighting Rey Dau in a thunderstorm, or Nu Udra when that part of the theme hits.

Though I can think of one. Bring my girl Ahtal-Ka and her mech back.

I think while World/Wilds was an upgrade to the MH formula, Rise was a step forward, if that makes any sense. The limitations of the Switch maintained many of the old limitations, and the game still manages to be as whimsical as its predecessors (I miss the cutscenes of your cats and dogs being

I remember having so much fun with Rise, and I was one of the three people that liked the Rampages. Its vibes were so much more in line with old MH than World; climbing the Shrine Ruins wasn’t quite the same as ascending the Ancestral Steppe, but it was close.

I’m really sorry to hear that, the performance issues suck a lot. When I stream Wilds, sometimes the game will just shit itself and start chugging at 20fps and I have to relaunch the whole damn thing to fix it. Bit frustrating for stream, but otherwise manageable.

I remember everyone complaining about Rise being slim, and now Sunbreak gets a lot of praise. It just takes patience and the willingness to put the game down temporarily feeling a little unsatisfied.

And I’m fortunate to have a computer that runs Wilds really well 90% of the time.

This is exactly what I’m saying. Wilds isn’t supposed to have a super good end game to grind to, because you’re not at the end of the game yet. There’s a lot of content coming, this is just the foundation on which the expansion builds and makes the whole huge game that people love.

With the excitement of having picked this up for my birthday, I realized that I haven’t had a new console since the original Switch back in 2017 (unless an upgraded pc counts), and that feels like a lifetime ago. Finally I can join my friends playing Mario Kart (and also be a Cataquack).
