No shade to the comedian. I'm glad they are getting their bag. It just provides some much needed perspective about what it can cost to do creative work that gets flattened down to contextless screen we thumb through.

Still thinking about a clip I saw of a comedian saying they spend $20k/month on support staff and other expenses and that most of those bills are covered by YouTube revenue, and boy do I think folks who've been trying to grind online in the hopes of 'breaking out' need to take it easy on themselves.

I think this comparison is largely right.

Yes, it’s a replay of McCarthyism’s ugliest aspects but that was fueled by a widespread sense that the country faced dire external dangers while this is about a deeply unpopular president’s grudges.

This is the biggest attack on free speech since the McCarthy era but it also has significantly less popular consensus behind it than the second Red Scare. It's being done on behalf of a minority faction led by the most unpopular president in modern history. Organizing against this can win.
