I think a lot about how political positions many of us hold are seen as extreme or “too woke”. I suspect they will seem normal, moral even, not too long from now. They always are.

This is really about how norms change. And how glaring it is only when time has elapsed. Conversations around consent, on who is considered vulnerable to harm, and what is a joke have always been in flux. And there were always people who called out issues. Even then.

The two characters had sex. And Pacey (the 15yo boy) asserted he was also responsible. My jaw was on the ground! But the story continued with minimal fallout or care for his personhood. This was the show of a generation. What did that teach every 90s teen? 🧐
