Short film by @brentpollution.bsky.social showing how nature miraculously survives amidst the despoilment of the River Brent.
Both enraging and uplifting!

It looks like a rural idyll but this is the Brent by Bittern’s Weir yesterday. Some of the team were helping @brentpollution.bsky.social with river fly monitoring , checking for aquatic larvae which show the health of the river. Pleased to say the count was good this time.

A fabulous piece of writing about rivers and us.

I wrote this essay about water & hope; imagining rivers “otherwise”; nature’s rights; grammars of animacy; & how our fate flows with that of rivers—& always has.
It’s from Is A River Alive?

Is this river alive? Robert Macfarlane on the lives, deaths and rights of our rivers
As pollution levels hit record highs and fresh water becomes ‘the new oil’, is it time to radically reimagine our relationship to the natural world?

@thames21.bsky.social via the Brent Catchment Partnership has supported this project, which aims to capture and identify surface water run-off inputs into the entire Brent Catchment over this summer. Lucky to be working with @imperialcollegeldn.bsky.social and over 50 Citizen Science Samplers.

The Brent Imperial Run-Off Project is under way. Over 50 samples were taken during the recent showers. We are looking forward to developing the programme over the coming months. @imperialcollegeldn.bsky.social @brentriverpark.bsky.social @paulpowlesland.bsky.social
