I frequently fall back into thinking of Stephen King as too much of the popular genre guy and then I read basically any of his books and remember how much of an inimitable grasp of detail he has while spinning the hell out of a fuckin YARN.

No one paints place in horror like him. Ever.

A gamer fiction novel that’s not just topical trash? Hell yeah.

Some nice swings in form spotted around in here, including a section reminiscent of a very bizarre segment of John Darnielle’s Devil House. A Not-Romance novel that made me want to cry at times but left me with the warmest hug at end.

Also watched After The Hunt, which I liked a lot more than . . . many people, it seems. Very much not as big of a MeToo commentary as it’s billed, not really that concerned with litigating it too much, more about cutthroat academia and generational disconnects and stuff.
