#worldphotographyday - celebrating that day in 1839 when Daguerre presented his invention to a joint meeting of the academies or Arts and Sciences in Paris, the daguerreotype. One year or so later they started taking stereoscopic pictures and this stereo daguerreotype is from my own collection.

Denis Pellerin demonstrates that institutions and collectors should embrace the risks that may exist, highlighting a wide variety of display methods to safely share these incredible images. Nothing can draw a person into an image and hold them there in the way a stereoscopic image can.

Kim and Robin explore how vibrant green pigments in the card mounts, often used to enhance the appeal of stereographs, were frequently made with arsenic-based compounds such as Paris green. They cover identification, scope of the problem, potential risks and practical safety guidance.

Thanks to Peter Babington, from St. Mary-le-Strand Church, for having us in this remarkable venue, to Sir Brian May for making all this possible, and to my colleague Rebecca Sharpe for dealing so brilliantly with all the admin, the technical side of the talks, and the Stereoscopy Day website.

Thanks to the speakers and moderators of the online talk on June 20th (Kim Bell, Robin Canham, Ken Herdern and Brendan Edwards), to the persons who came especially to London to attend the in-person talk, to those who stayed up rather late to watch the online one on June 21st.

Many thanks to those who braved the heat, the ongoing demonstration, the train delays, etc., to attend the talk. It was very much appreciated. All the photos in this post were taken with an Acer Spatiallabs Eyes camera.

Everything went well & then we had to uninstall (thank you Darrel, from Hexology for giving a hand), walk back over Waterloo Bridge to get to the station & make our way back to the mother ship in time for the 2nd talk of the day, online this time! No rest for the wicked or Stereo enthusiasts!

We were welcome there by Peter Babington who deserves our heartfelt thanks for his warm welcome and his help. For once, instead of the usual rain and darkness, which would have been welcome for a change, we had bright sunshine, which didn’t help with the projection.

And I am not counting all the various cables, remotes, etc. ! Our destination was St. Mary-le-Strand, a beautiful church less than 50 yards from King’s College where Charles Wheatstone was a professor for over 40 years.

Stereoscopy Day 2025. On the longest and one of the hottest days of the year so far, we set off for London to give an in-person talk. Can you imagine that in our suitcases we had two projectors, a beam-splitter, nearly 100 pairs of 3-D glasses and a 2.50 x 1.50 m screen ?
