Not sure where to start?
I made a starter pack of 5 essays for the grief-stricken, the burned out, and the quietly determined.

this book "Surviving Climate Anxiety" came across my feed recently and piqued my interest - has anyone read it? thoughts?
It breaks my heart receiving calls from students in a panic about being accused of using AI on assignments where they never used AI.

People. If you are going to police AI use, the most important thing you can do is be human. Remember there is a human heart on the other end of that accusation.
The "silent majority" is where the vast majority of people want climate action but they don't talk about it because they think other people won't agree.

I imagine if that problem were resolved we would see climate climbing in voter importance.
Climate change and the environment is important to voters! Twice as salient as crime!

Not saying it needs to be the primary platform plank, but green policy is not turning anyone away from Dems.
this is a collage I made to describe my purpose statement β€œfor people and planet”

A mentor pointed out that it made her think of β€œthe people’s planet” and β€œthe planet’s people,” which birthed this yin and yang symbol representing the people of the planet and the planet of the people.
switching from SMART goals to HEART goals:

H = honest

E = energizing

A = aligned

R = realistic

T = transformative

Skeletons aren't just bonesβ€”they're stories. Steve Huskey’s "The Skeleton Revealed" shows how vertebrate skeletons reveal movement, behavior, and evolution. From chameleons to alligators, these displays show how bones shape the form and function for survival. ➑️ https://nature.ly/4hxrt8C
I feel like something that often gets lost in the climate conversation is:
it's not succeed or fail.
it's: every bit of CO2 makes it worse, and every bit of emissions reduction and conservation makes it better.

If you take the time to read the whole Gates memo (which I did), the bulk of the content was mostly solid and encouraging. Really!

It was the FRAME that was off--very off, from the first line.

And when your framing is off, then how you make decisions and set priorities is off. THAT'S the problem.
silent majority! πŸ’ͺ✊
β€œRecent studies show that between 80% β€” 89% of the world’s population wants to see climate action. Many would even contribute 1% of their income to make that happen, even tho people vastly underestimate their peers’ desire for change. Members of this β€œsilent majority” come from all walks of life…”’

I am perpetually curious about sail cargo as a climate solution. A prime example of how solving climate change can make the world more awesome.
Fossil-fuel guzzling ships power the global supply chain. One climate solution is good ol’ fashioned sailboats.

The world’s largest wind-powered cargo ship is on its maiden voyage, carrying cars and cognac. Its destination? Baltimore, where it’ll arrive today.

yessss!! agreed, different things resonate with different people, there are indeed many valid ways to cover climate topics.

I'd say the only wrong way is to ignore it completely.

Athletes call for climate adaptation fightback ahead of COP30

Climate change is one of the toughest opponents facing any athlete, warns Brazilian soccer player Tamires Dias, one of around 40 elite sportsmen and women involved in the launch of new global campaign featuring at COP30.

So in that case, using social media more could result in more awareness of the problem which results in more anxiety.

But the cause of the anxiety is still climate change which is caused by fossil fuel use, not social media usage. Social media usage would be just an intermediate step to awareness.
I think they’re making a correlation between social media use and climate anxiety in the study, not saying social media is causing climate anxiety!

My takeaway was that social media might be educating folks about the reality of the climate situation.
San Francisco when climate change was solved.

Mysteriously has a lot more water and a ferry over my house but I am NOT ASKING TOO MANY QUESTIONS.
fascinating research on climate doom
One important finding for me was the overwhelming negative imagery that people have about climate change, when we asked an open-ended question about the first image that came to mind. We're missing positive imagery and narratives about the transition and climate action.
