🌊 Three results are in (samples 17th November 2025):

1️⃣ Sea Lanes ≤ 11 cfu / 100mL E.coli

2️⃣ Brighton Palace Pier, east side = 652 cfu / 100mL E.coli

3️⃣ King Alfred SRO, Hove = 119 cfu / 100mL E.coli

EA rates results ≤ 250 cfu / 100mL E.coli as ‘Excellent.’

We are devastated to confirm that bio-bead pollution has reached Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. We're working to assess the damage to the precious saltmarsh habitat and plan the clean-up.

Southern Water’s alert about Hove was clarified, “Our team have reviewed the storm overflow release event 1333704 from SHOREHAM NO1 and have confirmed it as a false alarm.” There was a genuine release on 20 Oct, for 4h33
Shoreham Beach was impacted on 23 Oct for 57 minutes with an outfall at No1.

Brighton Palace Pier, east side = 384 cfu / 100mL E.coli

Rottingdean = 137 cfu / 100mL E.coli

Saltdean = 203 cfu / 100mL E.coli

EA rates results ≤ 250 cfu / 100mL E.coli as ‘Excellent’ and ≤ 500 cfu / 100mL E.coli as ‘Good.’

Rainfall data for Ditchling Road, Brighton, showed 28mm of rain 17:45 19 Oct to 17:45 20 Oct. Hove had a 4h33 release from Shoreham No1 outfall (a few km offshore).

Brighton Kemptown, Rottingdean, and Saltdean had a 7h01 release from the Brighton Portobello No2 outfall (a few km offshore).

With all the rain and outfall alerts from Southern Water, we managed to collect three samples at low tide yesterday between 17:25-17:45 (20th October).

King Alfred SRO, Hove = 1,824 cfu / 100mL E.coli

Rottingdean = 339 cfu / 100mL E.coli

Saltdean = 156 cfu / 100mL E.coli
