Gambling £100 on a horse or a share?
With shares you stand good chance of getting much of your money back if you lose.
So if you whack £100 on SBTX I think (touchwood) you stand a chance of doubling your money in 2 months. But if it fails you'll probably still get most of your money back.

Another absolutely amazing story from Rachel Aviv in the New Yorker. Between this and the Lucy Letby story, a masterclass in the extraordinarily consequential things smart people of goodwill can get wrong.

On face value I would think if the "official" food distribution points are chaotic and people are getting shot - dropping aid by plane will likely be even worse....

I'm thinking the simple solution to the housing problem (too much or too little demand) is build a 21st century version of the pre-fab house. Build whole suburbs really fast and knock them down just as quick when there is no demand.

the problem I have about building houses is within 10 years the bulk of the global baby boomers would be dead. The global birth rate will continue to fall. And migration from Middle East etc will have long gone past its peak.
What will do with all the millions and millions of empty houses?

Its straightforward. If a "significant" percentage of medical experts think there were no murders then its NOT beyond reasonable doubt that Lucy Letby is guilty of anything.
Its not rocket science. Its peer review science. The murders are a scientific theory and the medical peers are not convinced.

A good analysis of a little-known facet of the Lucy Letby case.

If the running time is too daunting, skip to 15:20 which is a great summary of how medical deductive reasoning should work, comparing it with what the prosecution's expert witness did.
