My word. Lethbridge-Stuart, the hero of many an alien invasion.

I remember him heading off, single handed, armed only with his sidearm to face the Silurians.

Doctor: "What are you going to do"
The Brig: "my Job"
Fascinating how local word of mouth knew that, 350 years on.
I knew you were the man! Thanks. I have been puzzling over Pode Hole for years.

What's your take on the suggestion that the wing had to be demolished so a new, bigger Fuhrer bunker can be built underground, and that the ballroom is camouflage?

In the past many Dutch drainage engineers were employed in Fen drainage. Pode Hole is at the head of Vernatt's drain. I think it quite likely people were familiar with Dutch vocabulary

@robwords.bsky.social I live near a place called Pode Hole, essentially a place built to house fen drainage engines.

"Pode" is said locally to mean "Toad". But I can't find any other instance .

Now I hear the Dutch for Toad is Pad. Can you throw any light on this?

I can't cope with window cleaning any more, so I have engaged the services of a window cleaner 4 times a year.. He came last week. Two days ago We had an owl strike on the window, leaving the characteristic outline pattern.

Was listening to a time team podcast audioboom.com/posts/877877... where they talk about the etymology of sherd/shard. Thought you would enjoy it, as an example of language developing.

They do go down an etymology rabbit hole in some episodes. Dr Geake is rather prone.
Mick Aston's Time Team legacy

Now then!

Just caught up with #WordsUnravelled about #Games, saying Whist is named for silence.

Have you come across the song "The Lambton Worm"? About a famous dragon from #Sunderland. The first word in the chorus is "Whist"...
