Feb’s full moon today, the Snow Moon. Named for the snowiest, coldest time of year in the Northern Hemisphere. It feels apt, a lunar spotlight on this season of American cruelty & isolation. Alas, spring is coming, warmer days ahead. It’s the harshness & cold which can highlight our needed repairs.

First full moon of 2026… hot outta the gate, a super moon, the Wolf Moon. Gotta admit, feeling a bit of the animal howl inside, a deep hunger. Howling for return of common sense & common good; howling for community, for the better prospects of equal opportunity, howling for honesty & decency & calm.

Happy Winter Solstice 2025. Shortest daylight hours of our northern hemisphere’s year. When the darkest days feel extra dark, extra cold, extra cruel… know that light beats dark, it just does, history’s proven it. So be light, stay actively kind, and actively, generously human. Spring will return.

Election night 2025… also November’s full moon, known as the Beaver Moon; a time when beavers’re active building dams & stocking their lodges for winter. Industrious & resolute, beavers seem like honest dealers and… feels we could all use some honest dealin about now, eh? Cheers to our inner beaver.

Tonight, October’s full moon…called Hunters Moon. Also 2025’s Harvest Moon (full moon closest to autumnal equinox) and first super moon of the year (when moon’s nearest to Earth in its orbit, appearing larger/brighter). A lot going on…something for everyone, so cheers to winter’s prep & to the hunt.

Northern Hemisphere’s Autumnal Equinox today, 24 hours split [pretty nearly] down the middle between sun-up & sun-down… for everyone across all latitudes. A fine, biannual celebration of balance & axial rotation & solar revolution all in the “Goldilocks Zone" of our solar system…

Kev. We’d be celebrating’ your 10th b’day today. Ten’s a big milestone for little ol’ fellows. I miss you; miss that shared, absolute love & attention, miss sniffing you. Thanks for the extraordinary 8 years, birthday boy.🐶

Tonight, Sept’s Full Moon… the Corn Moon. A late-summer, celestial nod to the harvest… stayin’ up a little late, gettin’ a little loose under the big moon, crops gathered in, prep’d for the winter ahead; time to toast the toil & achievement. Gotta take a minute to salute survival’s effort. Cheers.

June’s full moon today, called Strawberry Moon. My gawd strawberries (and berries in general)… just the pinnacle of nature’s bounty. My fave cousin doesn’t like berries, none of them. Can you imagine that? It’s ridiculous, but also… tis more berries for us, to consume & to delight in their splendor.

May’s full moon’s today, called “Flower Moon." Bit of a layup name, but I dig it. It symbolizes fertility, growth, new beginnings; a time to peep that orbiting spotlight and maybe reflect on where we’ve been & where we’re headed… to appreciate the miraculous beauty of growth all around & within us.

Kev…
It’s been one year; the hole in my heart is no smaller. I miss your energy, your love & lickins, your impassioned regulation of birds & rodent life. You brought out the best in me, one half of a powerful codependence. I still sing to you. I hope you hear me.

I’m a single-tasking chap.
Feels good sayin’ it;
acknowledging it.
I live it.
It’s served me.

My best childhood bud, Mike Carlson… died 29 yrs ago today. He’d be 50 now; I’m about to be 50. It’d’ve been great to be 50 with him. He’d prolly have grandkids, I don’t have kids yet. We’d laugh, compare life notes, indulge one another. Been gone for 29 yrs… but always here, toted inside my heart.

April’s full moon today, the Pink Moon, named for pink wildflowers that bloom in early spring. A mix between red's passion and white's purity… pink symbolizes love & compassion, empathy & emotional balance; and likewise it’s widely associated with the feminine spirit.

Spring equinox; nature’s biannual exhibit of balance, equality of solar & lunar hours for all. Soaking it in, cuz life feels anything but balanced nowadays on account of our government’s wanton rolling-back-the-clock on progress & science & personal freedom & ideas & knowledge & facts & common good.

March full moon’s tonight, called Worm Moon after the earthworm trails that appear in the thawing ground. In literature, worms can represent decay, which fits the moment… witnessing an orgy of autocratic corruption & self-dealing, the death of American democracy, ready to be feasted on by the worms.

Got only 47 hours this weekend to get less accomplished than hoped. Annnd Monday arrives one hour sooner. How fun is that? Real life time travel.

Feb’s full moon is today, the Snow Moon. Snow cover insulates life in winter, conceals the seeds & roots in rejuvenative hibernation, loaded with kinetic, dynamic, fertile potential, that’ll grow in springtime. This moment feels extra wintery, conditions growing darker & colder, spring more distant.

Chinese Lunar New Year today, transitioning out of a Dragon year into a more modest, less mythical serpent… a Year of the Snake, which symbolizes rebirth, regeneration, and the pursuit of love & happiness. Bettin’ many of us could use a ticket aboard that train… to revived energy & direction & love.

Reading claims of planetary alignment occurring today, where all eight planets’ll be in a line, visible in our nighttime sky. Whether exactly true or not we can appreciate it, be inspired & humbled by it… celestial alignment, an opportunity to hug a loved one and say “Can you believe this sh*t?!”

Dr King -
On a day celebrating your legacy, it feels undermined by elevating a white supremacist felon to America’s highest office. We inherited the unfinished business of your equal rights & equal justice movement… and are failing.

January Full Moon is today, the Wolf Moon. Named for wolves heard howling during winter nights; it symbolizes resilience & survival during harsh times; a fine opportunity to reflect on connection to our own “pack,” both in how it sustains us and our responsibility in sustaining it.

Today, the 4th anniversary of my Pop’s death & 8th month-iversary of my dog Kevin’s death, finds me reflecting on loved ones lost, their enduring role in our lives; difference-makers we carry in our hearts on account of big love and who hoist us up even in their absence. Thanks Dad. Thanks Kev.

Can’t be the only one who has, looking at holiday cards from family & friends, tried getting a closer look by futilely scrolling in with my finger/thumb like it’s a cell phone image. Device reliance & habits’ve taken full hold.

O’er my adult life, this I’ve noticed very clearly: people who use the word “frankly,” will overuse the word “frankly”… to the point that, in listening to them, suddenly nothing in their commentary feels especially frank.
