I was not prepared for how good Challengers of the Unknown by Loeb and Sale was going to be. In hindsight, I should have been. Highly recommended.

Lakeside reading from a week at camp with family.

-Finished DC's Absolute Power and tie-ins

-Read a collection of Alan Moore's Superman stories

-And then dug in deep for amazing The Sheriff of Babylon and 20th Century Men.

It was a good week, both for the books and family memories.

I've never related to Jenny Sparks more than when the Spirit of the 20th Century had to come back and deal with the troubles and realities of the 21st Century in this Jenny Sparks series by @tomking.bsky.social

On her phone too much and going through COVID isolation really got to me.

Finally did a deep dive reading the original The Authority run and some related graphic novels. Can tell what an impact these stories had on modern super teams. And some really unique tales.

The Terrifics was a fun adventure. I didn't realize until I started it how Fantastic Four influenced it was. I liked the first two volumes the best. Bizarro, multiverse and even choose your own adventure stories followed and were absolutely crazy but still fun. "Go, Terrifics, go!"

You can hear the great @tomking.bsky.social answer a question from me on the @wordballoon.bsky.social podcast today. It's in part 2 at about the 1 hour mark. Some talk of @ahoycomicmags.bsky.social and Ithacon as well. Thanks, Tom and John!

I did not know I needed Santa Claus comics in my life.

Loved reading Klaus by @grantmorrison.bsky.social and Dan Mora at a good time for a tale of Santa being a light in the darkness.

In addition to these panels, there were so many awesome snowy scenes that stood out.

First read of 2025, to start off the Year of Superman, was a re-read of Superman: For All Seasons. So good.

I read 1,100 comic books in 2024.

I'm sure it's no coincidence that I started writing more fiction again this year and sold four short stories to @ahoycomicmags.bsky.social

Among my favorite reads of the year were (thread):

Love this classic story "The Silent Night of the Batman," where Batman spends Christmas Eve singing carols with GCPD and nothing bad happens in Gotham due to reminders of Batman inspiring people to be good. A much-too-rare example of showing Batman actually positively influencing Gotham.

Batman/Santa Claus: Silent Knight has been such a fun holiday read.

These panels from Silent Knight Returns #2 by @jeffparker.bsky.social & @lukasketner.bsky.social w/ a badass Santa moment & legendary line might be my favorite part far thus far.

And all the times Superman marks out over Santa.
