I know of three recent MSU Entomology alumni caught up in the indiscriminate firings of federal workers and at least three folks from my time at NCSU. If there are other MSU alumni affected, please reach out to me.
All but one employee managing 300,000 acres of woodland in Washington was fired last week. Among their duties? Trash and human waste removal. Either these spaces won't be legally accessible to the public moving forward or they will be a literal trash pile. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/18/c...

Another damaging firing of a young scientist. Dr. Darling, an MSU Entomology alum, was working to rear parasitoids to control emerald ash borer and other devastating pests of forests and farms. There is no private sector equivalent doing this work, and this loss means less control for these pests l.
