In all seriousness:
American public television
The American soap opera (we need to teach the younger generation)
Political think tanks
The Beach Boys because I haven’t liked any doc about them that wasn’t a taped concert
I figure Ken Burns has one, maybe two big documentary series in him before he fully retires. What do you think they should be? My votes include Football, Hip-Hop, World War 1, Reconstruction (though Skip Gates did this one well), Iraq/Afghanistan, 19th Century Expansionism.

The Thanksgiving Parade came into existence to offset the threat of Ragamuffin Day. Look it up!!

The Thanksgiving parade is the highest form of American art. Driven by capitalism but entirely earnest, bizarre in ways you can never expect, absolutely packed with Broadway stars freezing their asses off. There is really nothing we do better than
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has always been a surreal journey through its own twisted reality.

If you saw the Instagram clip TCM posted with me talking to Dave Karger, you probably noticed I had on a yellow T-shirt. This was my James Dean T-shirt I bought off eBay. I wore it for good luck.

Pierson didn’t write the script for that TV movie. It was written by Ron Nyswaner, best known as the screenwriter of Jonathan Demme’s Philadelphia. After the film premiered at Sundance, Addams got some consulting gigs on film productions that featured trans characters.
Not in my TCM discussion but of note is that the Oscar-winning DDA screenwriter, Frank Pierson, would later direct the TV movie Soldier's Girl, based on the true story of PFC Barry Winchell's murder by another soldier which was motivated by Winchell's relationship with trans woman Calpernia Addams.

The real Sonny was John Wojtowicz who among members of the activist group the GAA (the Gay Activist Alliance) went by John Basso and the nickname Littlejohn who was indeed a married man to a woman who bore his children when he did this and the attempted Chase Bank robbery.
For tomorrow night's TCM appearance, I just want to highlight that when researching the true story of Dog Day Afternoon, the 'gay wedding' referenced within the news report of the film did happen and Lee G. Brewster's DRAG Magazine covered it only to follow up on it later. Photos from DTA.

In what was perhaps the most CF&M coded type of day, it is Candy Darling’s birthday and the anniversary of the release date of George Stevens’ Giant, the last of James Dean’s screen performances which also served as inspiration for Come Back to the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean.

My Thanksgiving foods prompt is this:
What is an item (or items) that was/were not in your family’s rotation growing up that you later got around to and came to love and sought to include?

I basically willed cheddar bay biscuits and pecan pie into existence at my family’s Thanksgiving.
