Is it weird that I'm starting to feel like Ms. Paint is my favorite medium for paleo art? The lack of pressure to make everything perfect is really nice.

Anyway, have a Thylaco Leo stalking the edges of a scrub fire!

Thylaco Leo - a carnivorous marsupial from prehistoric Australia, stalks the edges of a scrub fire to snatch up pray running to escape it. This little sketch was inspired by a youtube video I watched that compared Thylacos to the drop bear, a sort of Australian fearsome critter who's said to drop out of trees and attack people.
It was a very cool video, but it had an ai thumbnail, and part of me wanted to draw a little thylaco and send it to the creator as a replacement. At the time I thought this would have been a nice gesture, but as I was drawing this guy I realized it might have been taken as an insult, so I chickened out. ALAS!
Anyway, it's here, and ya'll get to see it <3

The charity fight rages on, and I have yet to fall in battle!
Today I have presented a megaraptor... who's maybe colored similarly to a certain roaring toy.

Text: A large and very controversial group of theropod dinosaurs who sported a long pointy snoot and a powerful set of claws on their forelimbs. Were they tyrannosaurids who chose arm day over jaw strength? Megalosaurs on their way to becoming spinosaurs? Neovenatorids who minimaxed?

No one knows, but that won't stop us from loving these weirdos, and hoping the Jurassic World will one day give us these real life scary dinos rather then silly hybrids one day.

Art: A silly ms paint sketch of a red and grey megaraptor, who's colors may or may not have been inspired by the JW megarat toy. He's a prized possession of mine, I could not help myself!

whoop, I almost missed my Monday post LOL! It's okay though! I've made it just in time!
Over on the ole FB, the group Wild Green Memes for Ecological Fiends is having their yearly charity battle!
And I'm not saying you should go vote for Girlboss Raptor Chapter if you feel like participating... but

Tameryraptor- A large Carcharodont who was originally described as the first Carcharodontosaurus fossil, but sadly was blown to smithereens during World War 2, along with the first Spinosaurus discovered. (rip to a real one)

Luckily enough, photos of this old fossil survived, and were recently compared to the to carch material that has been collected since, and low and behold! They don't match! Turns out this old boy was a different species, with slightly more triangular teeth and a third face crest that sat in the middle of the muzzle.

Art: A thick and blueish tameryraptor with an orange face and a somewhat smug expression, overshadowing a very small ceratosaur who's sad that he didn't even try to change his crest a little. He's stealing the look!

Just saved one of my favorite Florida native bugs from a pond! She's a rainbow scarab - Phanaeus vindex.

These guys eat nothing but poop throughout their whole lives, but luckily they prefer mostly livestock poop.
As a grown up farm kid, I can promise it's not as bad as it sounds XD

A beautiful rainbow scarab who's unfortunately very soggy. Poor girl was doing the beetle doggy paddle in our pond! Lucky for her I'm not squeamish about beetles, so I was happy enough to lift her out. She was very polite about it, and sat with me for a long time cleaning her antennas and wiping water off her face.
These guys are one of the less appreciated critters of Florida, and I love them dearly.
... Actually, I think most of my favorite critters are the ones who go overlooked. Um, maybe there is something I can do about that?

Oh, I just looked at my schedule and panicked XD
Time for more art! I don't have anything new of the lovers, but here's a wip of the only god I play! Artifex presents as a cute little muse, but is actually busy writing the story.

Who better to be in charge of fate then a god of the arts, right?

A work in progress ref sheet of a brown and green... uh... dragon, I guess. Artifex's design is based heavily off of cheetahs and borzois, as well as ball pythons and butterflies. She has a gracile body built for running, a longish neck, and a cute squishy snake face, a bit like the creatures found on those lovely Babylonian gates! Fun fact, I actually found out about this creature after designing her for the first time, but have leaned into the similarity since. It's fitting!

As I draw and write, I'm working to create a reference that shows how Artifex is both a writer, and a character. She acts under odd rules that only she understands, and so might not know what's about to happen in one chapter, but advise Milvus to load her chekhov's gun in the next. Needless to say she is very fun to roleplay and even more fun to write in my own world build.

Is she an author insert??
... maybe.

A totally normal rooster who turns into a cockatrice armed with a sword and shield. He will defeat all the enemies with friendship! ... or his sword and spurs. Which ever happens first.

It's a slow day at work and it feels like my ADHD is consuming me, so I'm sketching mononychus to spark joy. They are just so cute!

I've had this silly video game idea for a very long time, and I've drawn a little bit of art for it but... Well I have a lot of game design/concept artists friends now? Maybe it's time I take is a bit more seriously?

Anyway, I sketched a playable creature this morning as a warmup :D

It's a Rotripper! An allosaurid inspired creature designed to be a Skyrot playable species. It's intended to be a party tank/damage dealer, but it also seems appropriate for rotrippers to aid the party in exploration, maybe by buffing movement speed and stam, as well as helping them ignore debuffs from bad weather and scary bosses. Nothing makes one brave like a dinosaur fighting by one's side!

So apparently Dire wolves aren't actually wolves? They are closer to jackals and coyotes? They were just big bone crushing doggies?

... And that's a problem, because I would 100% try to pet them.
Anyway, here's a paleo accurate dire doggie!

When I was a smol bean, a special aired on PBS Nova Bone Diggers. There were lots of creatures found, but the one they named Thylacoleo Carnifex captivated me.
That episode aired Jun 19th, 2007, so it's been... shoot, 17 years?
