In most conversations with other COVID-conscious people, the idea that "nothing can be done" comes up.

I think we need 3 spaces: 1) anti-capitalist analysis; 2) anti-capitalist mourning; 3) anti-capitalist actions.

In most conversations with other COVID-conscious people, the idea that "nothing can be done" comes up, sometimes disguised as "people are ableist and selfish, so they won't do anything," and other times directly as "human beings are horrible."

The community is hurt, and this kind of thinking doesn't help us process our emotions or move forward.

I think we need three spaces: 1) anti-capitalist analysis; 2) anti-capitalist mourning; 3) anti-capitalist actio

1) anti-capitalist analysis to raise political consciousness, understand how state propaganda works, and provide other examples of popular health self-defense struggles to inspire us;
2) anti-capitalist mourning where we can move from "nothing can be done" to "we have more power than we think," support each other emotionally, and talk about our deaths, the deaths of others, disability and mass death, and what hurts us;
3) Anti-capitalist actions are the way to combine steps one and two, ideas like campaigns for mandatory masks in health centers, distributing other forms of health sovereignty like pads, tampons, and narcan, children must be cared for and not infected, a mask campaign for schools... and much more.

I reflect a lot on the mental consequences of being isolated for so long. I'm used to the violence of the state and exclusion from society, but this isolation is definitely the greatest torture I've ever experienced.

She's a caregiver who cares about me but spends money every week to go see her boyfriend. She's a caregiver who for a long time didn't believe me when I told her about long COVID.

While all this is happening, I have to be constantly talking to my mother because she's a caregiver who doesn't want to be a caregiver. She's a forced caregiver who doesn't take what I say seriously, and I have to repeat it to her many times because she doesn't write it down.

I've been through some very difficult times in my life, but I've had company. This is the hardest time I've ever been through in my entire life, and ableism and capitalism make that company even less so.

Added to this is my Crohn's disease, which was also being neglected by doctors, and since they didn't want to treat me or listen to me, I've lost 15 kilos.

While all this is happening, extreme violence is happening around me, such as being ignored by doctors for over a year and a half because I have Long COVID.

Meanwhile, in all this context, people aren't wearing masks because of state propaganda, and therefore it's no longer simply the fact that I can't leave my house because of the fatigue I feel, but that people are literally putting me in enormous danger.

The physical is prioritized over the online, and the online support you can give a person isn't given importance. Added to this is the fact that many people, due to the alienation they feel under capitalism, want to escape and not connect with other people.

Basically, I have a friend who can call me from time to time, and I need connection. I need calls. The way I could connect with people before was through physical meetings. When you can't do this, a large portion of people are going to feel very uncomfortable.

I've been noticing for years how the ableist world tries to isolate and exclude you time and time again. The more disabled you are, the harder it is to connect with others.
