The @cambsgreenparty.bsky.social’s city councillors (and a future councillor, with your support) were over at the Guildhall last night 💚 I asked the council what they’re doing to get residents’ homes retrofitted so that they can save money with environmentally-friendly housing 🏡

A record 1,611 people - including 11 children - died while homeless in 2024.

Both Labour and the Conservatives have failed to fix Britain's housing crisis.

A home is not a privilege.
A home is a human right.

We are sick of Labour's half measures. We need affordable housing NOW!

WE'RE SICK OF HALF MEASURES - WE NEED AFFORDABLE HOUSING NOW
We are bringing this motion because we are sick of Labour pretending that they can make homes affordable by tinkering with the planning system. There are already 1.5 million homes that have planning permission and have not been built. Builders won't build homes they can't sell because people can't afford to buy them. The volume of new homes built is managed so that prices are kept high.

• Remove restrictions on the use of Right to Buy receipts
• Fund the full cost of bringing empty homes back into use
• Purchase and repair existing homes

I’m happy the Greens now formally support East West Rail, but I will personally be far bolder. Electrifying the line ‘as quickly as possible’ must mean any new line being electrified at the point of construction and we can’t leave planning the route to the Tories and Labour 🚂

Last week, I again challenged the Police and Crime Commissioner over their generous use of statistics to back up their supposed achievements, as well as their inability to show that using stop-and-search has had results; I suspect the police are just harassing random people 🙄
