That's the very definition of authoritarianism. If we do not hold our leaders to account, we open the door to the hard right message being normalized. That's exactly what happened in the US. Why you want to repeat it here is beyond me.

Nope. The exact opposite is true. Your approach is how Trump got elected and how Poilievre will, too. Ignoring the issues that matter to over half the country is the surest way to normalize Poilievre and his Trumpian rhetoric.

It is not purity testing. It's the very essence of democracy. Carney promised to govern in a certain way. Instead, we get Conservative bullshit. Holding Carney to account is how we make sure Poilievre is never elected. Blurring the lines like Carney is doing makes Cons seem palatable.

Except Carney's rightward drift is undermining the very reasons we want to stop Poilievre. We now have a 'Liberal' government potentially eroding the assumption of innocence to pander to right-wing scare tactics. We are getting Poilievre policies already. That has to stop. Now.

You might want to tell the Carney government that. Everything they are doing is responding to Conservatives by enacting their policies while ignoring progressive voters. It's a recipe for disaster. Right now, Carney's soft-pedalling of Trump makes him look like a total fraud.

I think part of the issue is that there is a disconnect between the micro and macro economy for many people. I'm old, so it reminds me of the conditions of the early 1990s.

They are desperately trying to attract fish in a constantly drying pond, so they conflict dial gets turned up to 11. I'm an old fart so I still have cable, but I don't know a single millennial in my life who does. Demographic wall reality has not sunk in for broadcasters somehow.

Carney only wins because the opposition leader is a snivelling asshat. Given a stronger leader, those numbers would not be as good. At some point, Carney needs to address the expectations of the progressives who elected him, not the Conservative voters who didn't.

I gave up on the NDP after Jack died. Jack got that the way to get progressive policies enacted was to bring people in and then help them understand why all these issues mattered. Instead, it was person after person arguing we can't fight that issue until we solve my issue in a weird competition.
