That would be amazing! Tuesday morning works - just let me know when fits you 😊

AAPM, here I come! Only my 2nd time ever, and 7 years since I last went 😳 Have acquired a few more grey hair & wrinkles in the meantime, but still excited to hear what’s happening on the other side of the pond. And please all reach out if you want to meet up! #medphys #AAPM2025

Biked the 7km home in the rain in high heels and a dress. I believe this means I’m now formally reassimilated? 🇩🇰 🚴‍♀️

My inaugural lecture as Professor of Clinical Medical Physics at Rigshospitalet and DTU will be on the 6th Oct at 3pm in Auditorium 1, Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen

It would be lovely to see a lot of familiar faces, for the lecture and for the reception afterwards ☺️

Survived the first week in my new workplace. Got an office, computer, keys & ID card - and so many lovely and welcoming colleagues. Key items have been added to my empty office shelves, and I’ve got tentative plans for stuff to work on over the coming months. Could do with some sleep, though 😂

Apparently blocks of perspex do indeed show up as water equivalent on airport security scanners. Lesson learned, I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️ #medphys

For noen kan et lite regnbueflagg bety at vi føler oss tryggere. Man ser flagget og tenker; « her kan jeg passe inn»
En enkel måte å vite at jeg også blir satt pris på.

Veldig fin video

It was a pleasure! Thank you so much for keeping me company 😊 Hope the last leg is at least going smoothly - LNER did their job and got me onto another train, so now heading north to Leeds
cancerphysicist.bsky.social
😂 😂 We had enough of an ESTRO contingent on the train that we could have reasonably brought her with us 😁

(Although … you were nominally the industry representative in the group. So wasn’t the coffee your responsibility?!?)

Well, we’ve got as far as Brussels. Now waiting for the 14:52 Eurostar (after the staff kindly rebooked us). So only 2 hours delay so far, at least - but I’m really sad about missing out on a leisurely morning with breakfast on the train 🙁
cancerphysicist.bsky.social
Oh well, that didn’t quite go to plan … Got 9 hours of restful sleep and a shower, but now stuck in Cologne waiting for a replacement bus. At least I’ve got good company! #ESTRO25

In terms of the response rate, I think that’s actually pretty good, given that it’s 6 months later and many of these patients were referred back to surgical departments etc, so lost contact with the RT department. And we didn’t use electronic questionnaires, so they had to get it in person
cancerphysicist.bsky.social
Good questions, and maybe @beardy-econ.bsky.social is better placed to answer 😊 But no, they weren’t all treated identically - most were included in the APHRODITE trial, which ment that they were randomised between standard and dose escalated LCRT. But some were treated outside trial

My feet are shattered by too much walking in heels, and I'm functioning on about 15 hours of sleep over the last five days. So now hanging out in a cool little cafe, trying to keep awake before boarding the night train to Brussels🚆
See you all in Stockholm next year #ESTRO25

This was also my very first conference with my partner attending - and we even had a joint study to present 😊 bsky.app/profile/canc...

How do patients prioritise different aspects of non-operative rectal cancer treatment?

We conducted a prospective, longitudinal multicentre study alongside a clinical trial, asking rectal cancer patients undergoing definitive RT to help us understand their treatment preferences

Off to my first #ESTRO 2025 session today!

Here's our poster, a DCE on preferences for non-surgical rectal cancer treatment. We found:

- patients accepted more toxicity for a greater chance of cure
- long-term side effects more important than short-term
- preferences stable pre/post-treatment

I gave a total of 5 talks, attended & chaired numerous meetings, made it to too few of the scientific talks (🙏 online recordings!), and saw so many friends and colleagues that I have lost count a long time ago. I even managed to meet a few new people (@NiuSanford!) #ESTRO25
cancerphysicist.bsky.social
I got to catch up with my partner in crime (i.e. all things #reirradiation) Eliana Vasquez Osorio, who gave a brilliant - as always - talk on image registration for reRT dose accumulation today #radonc #medphys #ESTRO25
cancerphysicist.bsky.social
We got to present our innovative #reirradiation treatment planning solution, developed in close collaboration with RaySearch - and we saw the near-final implementation in RayStation. I can't believe that this may soon be available for clinical treatments! bsky.app/profile/canc...
cancerphysicist.bsky.social
Things that make me happy:
Seeing an RT planning & evaluation solution for #reirradiation that I’ve helped develop in its (nearly) final version. Amazing work by @raysearchlabs.bsky.social @solstina.bsky.social @crukradnetleeds.bsky.social & colleagues.
Probably highlight of #ESTRO25 so far for me 😍
cancerphysicist.bsky.social
#ESTRO25 was dominated by #reirradiation for me: invited talks, collaborators w/ presentations, Physics ReRT Working Group meeting, launch of the multidisciplinary ESTRO ReRT Focus Group, lunchtime meet&greet, rectal cancer reRT guidelines & more bsky.app/profile/canc...

Love it when a plan comes together! This year’s joint #ESTRO25-AAPM symposium is the culmination of 3 years of cross-Atlantic #reirradiation collaboration🤩

🔹Marija Popovic: dose accumulation

The lower GI clinical trials sessions were packed with groundbreaking findings: primary reporting from STAR-TREC, PLATO ACT 4, PRIME-RT, STELLAR II, CAO/ARO/AIO-16, and more
bsky.app/profile/canc...
No other scientific meeting has this high level of #radonc trial & research!

I’m SO delighted to finally see first STAR-TREC data reported 🤩 #ESTRO25

Short course RT vs chemorad for organ preservation in early stage rectal cancer

61% vs 80% TME-free survival at 12 months ➡️ More organ preservation with long-course chemorad!

What a blast - #ESTRO25 has been absolutely amazing 🙌
The scientific programme was outstanding: not only the clinical track - with many, many large trials reported - but also extremely strong #medphys, #RTT and #radbio tracks
cancerphysicist.bsky.social
I couldn't agree more. We need more patient involvement - and we need it to not be confined to the last Tuesday session! I couldn't make it (speaking at the same time ...), but it looks like it was an excellent session - can't wait to catch up on the recording #ESTRO25
cancerphysicist.bsky.social
Interesting perspective on #ESTRO25 from a #healthecon researcher. Where is all the research on decision making, patient preferences, valuation - and, to some extend, QoL and PROMs?
beardy-econ.bsky.social
I have to say I don't feel like I've gotten a lot out of #ESTRO25 overall. On the one hand, fair dos, it's a clinical conference and I'm not a clinician. But I work on preferences/decision-making/QOL/etc. and that seems really relevant to the area.

Dose metrics linked to bowel toxicity for rectal RT in the RAPIDO trial: Amazing work by Max Tanaka from NKI

Medium-to-high dose volumes for bowel bag (RTOG or Embrace) best predictors for both acute & late toxicity - V30Gy for LCRT, V20Gy for short course #ESTRO25 #radonc #medphys
