It's great to connect with so many naturists here, and I love all the people I'm seeing - old friends and new!

I am happy to follow almost any naturist account, but unfortunately I'm much, much less likely to follow you if you have no pic, and even less likely to follow you if you've never posted.

Boycoytting Disney won't do much. They own everything. You slept on capitalism as it consolidated the media.

Supporting independent news, or journalists, or artists, or musicians, or entertainers etc is a lot more important

Something new I've been learning lately: drawing! Here's a sketch. I'm still very much a beginner.

Exactly right. If we don't feel happy and safe in the naturist context, what is the point?
canudian1.bsky.social
That's exactly right. For me, it's a lack of empathy - people act on what they want, but not how the other person might feel. Empathy is the most important value we can have nowadays. (And the shared vulnerability of naturism makes it that much more important for nudists!)

Thank you! Your articles are always thought-provoking and challenging so I'm very pleased you enjoyed my piece.

A resort's newsletter editor just asked permission to reprint the linked article about compliments - a compliment in itself! This has been my most popular piece and I'm proud that it's going in front of a new #naturist audience. Thoughts on the article are welcome!

Stop and think before you compliment a nudist! | Write Nude
All of these are compliments. They’re all positive, all saying something nice about the person they’re direct at. And they’re the wrong thing to say.

You're right - I forgot to tag it. Oops!

Great piece! I think it was Tim Sargent of Almost Wild who said that normalize nudity wasn't the point; *legitimize nudity* was. We need to work to make society see nudity as a natural and inoffensive choice for people.

You deserve acceptance. This is fundamental to the naturist philosophy.

Reading the latest book in the naturist anthology. “Bare Skies Ahead” has 31 stories and is a hefty 633 pages! All the naturist writers donated their stories, and all proceeds go to Doctors Without Borders. Order here: tiny.cc/p04p001

Naturism is especially vulnerable to this way of thinking. But if we fall into that trap, we just make ourselves easier to exploit. And that is a danger to naturists, and to naturism.

I have much more to say about this! Thanks @ournaturistlife.bsky.social for lighting the fire.

I cannot agree with this article enough. The transactional mindset is the death of association (not just Associations, but the interaction of human beings). It's not just selfishness; it's a whole worldview that tries to reduce everything down to things that are easily quantified (usually dollars).

Love this too:

"When naturists organize, they amplify their voice... advocacy organizations like AANR or TNSF provides resources, legal support, and a collective presence that’s hard for lawmakers to ignore. Political activism works best when it’s...a chorus calling for fairness and understanding."
canudian1.bsky.social
I really like this article. "Many misconceptions link nudity with indecency or immorality, and those falsehoods can influence lawmakers and the public... Activists can reshape public perception and demonstrate that naturism is wholesome, family-friendly, and rooted in personal freedom."

I worked for many years in arts-focused groups (most decades old, one a century old) and they all face the exact same problem. They will learn to put diversity and accessibility first, or they will fade away. That's a certainty.

It can't be window dressing. It has to be core to the group's mission.
canudian1.bsky.social
This is really important. If you don't put diversity and accessibility first, you don't find diversity and accessibility. If you don't lead with voices for diversity and accessibility, you don't make space for them in your organization.

That's the main reason for which I only lasted 8 months as president of said association. We tried to bring substantial change, but the opposition made our task extraordinarily difficult. So I stayed on as a board member for the youth group, the only space in the club where I feel truly comfortable.

Isn't it great to know that people who seem like great people actually are great people in person? I always love when that happens.

Also, side tangent but no one is going to "normalize naturism" by posting selfies online of themselves and all their pals sitting in a hot tub on private property.

Let's do a freakin' body freedom protest y'all.

This is why you need us queers. We're used to having to fight for our rights.

I've met Kelley on multiple occasions. Not only is she an excellent author, she is an absolutely lovely person as well. And if she's doing a talk or workshop, I highly recommend going.
