A community of youth from care — and those who’ve aged out — creating belonging, building futures, and rooting strength in one another. We believe that even the hardest places can nourish growth when we show up for each other.

Let’s talk about what no one warns you about after leaving care:

When every part of your life was supervised—
when people walked into your room without knocking,
read your files without asking,
called meetings about you without inviting you—
you don’t always learn what a boundary feels like.

We’ve been taught to show up after the crisis:
Drop off the casserole. Share the GoFundMe. Post the tribute.
But mutual care—real, rooted, relational care—starts before the fall.
It’s:
🍲 Texting what can I bring?
🧾 Saying I paid the bill this month, no pressure.
🪴 Asking how’s your heart?

🚨BIG NEWS!!🚨
We received an anonymous donation of $157.73—which means our entire website cost is now covered!!!

I’m so deeply grateful to our mystery donor and to everyone who helped us get this far—whether you bought Hair Beans, boosted our posts, or just believed in the Care Grown Collective.

People love calling youth from care resilient.
Like it’s a compliment, a crown.
Don’t call me resilient if you’re not ready to talk about what made me that way.
Survival isn’t a badge—it’s a bruise.
We can be strong. We can heal.
But don’t skip the part where it hurt like hell.

Stopped in to see Jay at @capeandcowlcomics today and got the best news — we’ve raised over $60 through Hair Bean sales so far, which means we’re already halfway to our website fundraising goal!
I’m so grateful for every single person who’s supported this little dream!

We had a long conversation between some former youth and our former workers, about how much HARDER it was to get up and get out of bed and deal with school AND manage our trauma. They agreed that trauma informed care was not really the best practices at the time.

For youth from care, “adulting” often means survival without backup.
No emergency contact.
No soft place to land.
No one to call when it all falls apart.

We’re told we’re “resilient.”
We’re expected to thrive.
But resilience without resources is just a nicer word for neglect.
