For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to me. - Jesus

Jesus didn’t say:

If they’re immigrants, deport them.
If they’re queer, correct them.
If they’re Muslim, reject them.

Jesus said:

If they’re hungry, feed them.
If they’re sick, care for them.
If they’re strangers, welcome them.
“The great are not so great; it just appears that way because we are on our knees. Rise up.”

- Ramón Emeterio Betances
Jesus stands with the oppressed, never the oppressor. He gives up power rather than demand adoration. He is the humble King who rejects the throne—for the sake of those who have none.

If you support how this administration is treating immigrants in the U.S., but you’re also planning a mission trip to Latin America this summer… please cancel it.

You can’t come to “love on us” on a missionary vacation while working against our dignity as your neighbors.

Adiós.
If your Christianity is for the benefit of one nationality, then it’s nationalism, not following Jesus.
“I see no color” is not the goal.

“I see your color and I honor you. I value your input. I will be educated about your lived experiences. I will work against the racism that harms you. You are beautiful. Tell me how to do better.”

... That’s the goal.
Jesus never called his followers to defend Christianity, a “Christian nation,” or even their Christian churches.

Jesus called them to defend the poor, the oppressed, and the hurting.

Stop manipulating Jesus for the benefit of a few. Get to feeding, healing, and peacemaking.
The problem is not just that Trump thinks of himself as a Messiah; it’s that too many Christians want their Messiah to be more like Trump.
Christian Nationalists don’t want you to follow Jesus. They want to use Jesus, to manipulate others, to follow them.

And only them.
For the oppressed, peace is the absence of oppression. But for the oppressor, peace is the absence of resistance.

Even the statement, “Let’s invite more Black people to the table,” implies ownership of the table and control of who is invited.

Racism is about power.
