At their first meeting of the year Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, the Carson City School District School Board of Trustees nominated and voted in new leadership for the 2026 School Board. Trustee Molly Walt, District 6, was named the newest president. She replaced former President and now Immediate Past President Lupe Ramirez, District 1, as the school board’s leader. Trustees Richard Varner, District 4, and Michelle Pedersen, District 7, were also named vice president and clerk, respectively.

On Thursday, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office will present their biannual “State of the Jail” report to the Board of Supervisors, which includes statistics covering everything from inmate demographics, which agencies are making arrests, the deaths of prisoners and more. While fluctuation changes across categories are always present in reports (there was a 3% increase in bookings between November and December, but a 2% decrease between 2024 and 2025 for example), one category showed a significant change of rate: immigration.

In other arrests, a 23-year-old Carson City man was booked Monday for multiple alleged misdemeanor offenses following a traffic stop that led to a Department of Alternative Sentencing hold for violation of conditions.
Carson City arrests: Man booked for domestic battery after fight with father
A 33-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday morning for suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report. Deputies were dispatched at 5:05 a.m. to a reported fight on Royal Drive. The reporting party stated elderly males were fighting inside a residence. CCSO deputies arrived and heard a man yelling. A deputy knocked on the door and a man answered.

The East William Complete Streets Project has been in the works for most of this decade following the successful completion of the downtown, Curry and South Carson Streets projects. However, the East William project is a more significant undertaking; not only due to the beautification and traffic changes, but also because they are replacing the aging utilities along the corridor -- both above and below ground.
