Peter Dutton is the least liked major party leader in the history of the Australian Election Study back to 1987, “by far”.

www.abc.net.au/news/2025-11...

For the first time in decades, the Coalition has lost its perceived advantage on economic management, the Australian Election Study has found.

It shows the challenge ahead for the Liberals, who now need to regain their traditional strengths

Some early figures from the Australian Election Study here, showing generational voting trends: New figures show only one in five millennials voted for the Coalition in 2025 www.abc.net.au/news/2025-11...
New figures show only one in five millennials voted for the Coalition in 2025
As Liberals prepare to fly to Canberra to hash out their net zero stance, results from the Australian Election Study suggest those under 45 have continued to drift away from the Coalition.

the government now seems to be saying that Senators wouldn't need permission to use the bathroom under its proposed new standing order, but that's not what the motion on the notice paper says, unless they plan to amend it
November 4, 2025 at 1:15 AM
I'd be surprised if Marielle Smith's motion passes, but... if such a rule were to be agreed, is it genuinely enforceable? I am not a lawyer but this feels vaguely kidnapping-adjacent? Would Black Rod have to prevent senators from walking out one of the chambers many doors?

The by-election for the Queensland state seat of Hinchinbrook will be held on November 29. Former Katter MP Nick Dametto held it on a 13.2 per cent margin but resigned to run for mayor of Townsville. Premier David Crisafulli announced the election date today in a campaign video. #qldvotes

loving this suggestion to remove the donkey vote advantage by printing ballots on round paper with a centre hole, and installing spindles into ballot booths to "facilitate spinning if needed". i suspect it will be deemed logistically impractical, but it would certainly make voting more whimsical

This is interesting: someone has told the parliamentary inquiry looking at the last federal election that they worked as a contractor for a party or a candidate and was paid for doorknocking, phone polling, and working outside pre-poll voting centres

The Paris Agreement requires Australia (and all countries) to submit nationally determined contributions (NDCs) every 5 years, that each should be an improvement on the previous and reflect the “highest possible ambition”

Does pegging the target to the OECD average satisfy that?
November 2, 2025 at 3:01 AM
The Nationals want an emissions reduction target equal to the average of the emissions cut across OECD countries.

Purely on the maths of that: if all OECD countries adopted the same target, it would mean an emissions cut target of 0%

all the pictures on the O'Bahn wikipedia page appear to be upwards of two decades old. Adelaide deserves better than this.

California Democrats are “fighting fire with fire” with gerrymandered congressional maps, expected to be passed by voters next wk.

It makes political sense, but as America’s gerrymandering arms race widens, recall how hard fire is to control. My latest: www.abc.net.au/news/2025-10...
