Sometimes a girls' education historian, other times a library assistant. IHR Life Cycles seminar administrator.
Allotment keeper and one of those annoying cyclists who uses cycle lanes and obeys traffic lights.
Stir Up Sunday! With some family assistance to make the Christmas cake and my brother's Christmas playlist, I am starting to feel a little Christmassy.

In a strange world where some men think it is fine to mock women rejoicing in their academic achievements, this is my Dad's display of his children's graduation photos. My aunt told me that were he alive, grandad would also have been very proud. Hooray for men who delight in others' achievements.

I went to see my brother's band, Forest Bed, last night. It was not a Christmas gig. A friend asked if I feel festive yet. I don't. Even though I spent quite a bit of the day working on Christmas things for work. Maybe after the weekend I will.

I did not anticipate cycling in the snow to get to work this morning and I did not enjoy it.

Time to set off to Winchester for the @histedsocuk.bsky.social conference! I hope South Western Rail is operating smoothly today.

It was my monthly trip to a nursery to read stories today.🙂
Twenty excited children sitting on the rug.
Can I pass on the reading bug?
Twenty small children joining in with glee.
Hooray that access to stories is for free.

Yes, I really did want to spend precious study time dealing with HP and a printer error. Of course I did.

Back in the summer, my brother and I agreed we must go for an autumn walk in a favourite spot this year. Today was that day and what a colourful walk it was! Even more so thanks to my eagle eyed little niece pointing out the mouldy mushroom.

I am in a different library to normal for a Saturday, which means I got to facilitate Lego Club. The excitement from children outside the library was audible as I was preparing to open and the joy they brought in was delightful, albeit chaotic. I feel I have been inducted into the Lego Club.

One week until the @histedsocuk.bsky.social conference! I dreamt last night that it was hosted in my living room. It was awful. It would be awful. Even worse, in the dream my husband gave away the last of this season's apples to conference attendees. Definitely a nightmare scenario.

Mr Bond is having to repeatedly, gently, explain to his Mum that it is 5th November and so bonfire night and that is why she can hear fireworks around her.
The dementia beast has stolen another aspect of her memory 😥. She is confused.

Hooray for local independent bicycle service shops! Saving the day, quietly and conveniently.

Tarragon enjoyed this evening's @ihrlifecycles.bsky.social. Having helped me complete a PhD had an impact on him!

The light yesterday afternoon after my cousin's wedding was perfect. It had poured in the morning. Her friends told me this was because she had buried a sausage the previous evening (Linda McCartney as she's vegetarian). I thought they were joking but no, apparently it is a thing.🤔

At my cousin's wedding yesterday, I was reminiscing about my much missed grandparents with my uncle. He told me his Dad had helped developed Trim telephone. I knew grandad worked for the GPO with telephone equipment but this is rather more interesting.

I'm in a northern village to go to my cousin's wedding.
According to the man in the local bookshop, the hotel where the wedding is was previously a boarding school for 'wayward children'. Suddenly, the wedding venue has become much more interesting!

A slight detour on the way North for my cousin's wedding so that we could have fish and chips for tea in Blackpool was very much worth it.
Mr Bond had never been to Blackpool before! He was rather bemused 😅

I have to drive to Lancashire tomorrow, with my mum. I am driving. She thought I should pick her up she isn't far off the route. She lives 50 minutes drive to the south. Lancashire is very much to the north. I said no.
It could be a long weekend.

I had no idea that trying to book a taxi for rural Lancashire on Saturday would be so... taxing.

The library was far from quiet this morning. It was filled with a delightful sound of children and their adults choosing books, enjoying storytime, an art activity and playing games. We ran out of table tops for jigsaws.
A perfect soggy half term morning destination! 🙂

Guy Fawkes is thought to have worked as a footman at West Horsley Place (aka Button House)so today they had a Stuart day with the house open for exploration, historical cooking samples, Guy decorating and a glorious bonfire. We also discovered a cupboard under the stairs with an overflow library.
