Plates anybody?
Image shows a side plate, approx 8 inches wide, with a pattern of small, irregular, angular shapes radiating from a center point. The plate is flat with a slightly raised edge. It is glazed with a variegated green which breaks to warm amber over texture. There’s a magic in glazing. The right combination, the right application, and the right kiln firing can make something special.
Moon jar with a matte soft sage green glaze overlapping a matte white glaze. Where they overlap the gaze breaks into richer greens, blues, whites, and browns.

Porcelain vase
Bulbous porcelain vase, approx 5 inches tall, with a narrow foot and narrower, short neck. Glazed with a transparent turquoise glaze coming about 2/3 down the pot from the top.

A new glaze and a new shape!
Photo shows a bulbous jar with a pale celedon glaze overlapping a white glaze. Where the glazes overlap, they look like waves washing onto a shore.

My mystery glaze! I keep all of the glaze water from cleaning brushes and fettling pots. Once the glaze settles out, I can pour off the water and mix the remainder up to use on some more pots. I had enough to make a small batch of glaze and this is how it came out!

Another red clay teapot!

Who doesn’t love black & white?
Picture shows a moon jar thrown with white porcelain and glazed with a matte black glaze.

Testing out some new glazes on this little spice jar and small pot. Verdict - win!

Teapots have been on my to do list for a while. This pours quite nicely too!
Image shows a small tea bowl and teapot made from red clay and glazed with a green glaze. The teapot is cylindrical, with a short spout and a simple handle.

Simplicity is underrated.
A simple, elegant vase with a narrow foot and a wider mouth. Made from red clay and coated with a subtle grey/green glaze.

Twice baked! This vase had some glaze issues after the first glaze firing, so back in the kiln it went. The glaze changed dramatically, and I kind of love it!

Playing with glaze…
Picture shows a small moon base made of a dark red clay. The vase is glazed with a thin layer of white with random ribbons of a deeper white.

Cups! Lots of cups! There’s something about the shape and feel of these little tea cups that I love. I usually make them as glaze tests, but I’m going to be putting these up at Stella’s Art Gallery soon, because they deserve to be shared.
Photograph shows three stacks of small, rounded tea cups made from red clay and glazed in various shades of green, white, and indigo blue.

More goodness from the kiln. This was a lucky break - the tumblers thrown and trimmed during teaching sessions. I used them to test a new glaze combination, and my oh my did it work!
Three ceramic tumblers are stacked together. The tumblers are glazed 2/3 of the way down with the off white clay exposed on the bottom half. The glaze is drippy and has a variety of colors, from yellow ochre at the top, fading into a soft green, with a dark brown line outlining the drips.

Little and Large! The tiny cup started as 8oz of clay, and the acorn vase as 12lbs.

Ain’t it great what you can make from mud?
Two handmade ceramic vases. One, a small rounded cup form and the other a large urn shaped a little like an acorn. Both are decorated with a green glaze overlapping a brown glaze. Where the glazes overlap is very reflective.

My big baby is all glazed and done! She survived just fine. *phew*

Absolutely loving this Scott’s Red clay from Standard!

Hubby took me to the @clevelandmuseumofart for my birthday and I came away with so much inspiration for new work. This piece was thrown in two parts from @standardclaycompany Scott’s Red and joined together when it could hold its form.

Hold on to your ideals.
Hold on to your empathy.
"It's utterly impossible for me to build my life on a foundation of chaos, suffering and death.
I see the world being slowly transformed into a wilderness, I hear the approaching thunder that, one day, will destroy us too, I feel the suffering of millions. And yet, when I look up at the sky, I somehow feel that everything will change for the better, that this cruelty too will end, that peace and tranquility will return once more. In the meantime, I must hold on to my ideals. Perhaps the day will come when I'll be able to realize them."
- Anne Frank, 15 July 1944, The Diary of a Young Girl
