The tricky bit is that I had to really change how I was doing stuff both on the mental health side of things and the physical side of things to deal with my binge eating and chronic pain.

I kept trying to explain that this had been a problem BEFORE the weight gain. How dare this doctor dismiss me? How dare this fatphobic jerk tell me that my fat body was the root cause & that if I only changed that single thing, all of my problems would be solved?

In trying unsuccessfully to source the cause of my chronic pain, I went to a number of doctors and specialists around the country. Over and over, my weight would come up.

Sometimes gingerly, sometimes passive aggressive, sometimes STRAIGHT to aggressive, but it was really hard for me to hear. 🧵 ⬇️

We learned the term "praise kink" from @catieosaurus.bsky.social , and it's not restricted to any one gender; no matter your partner's gender, the occasional "good job" will do wonders in bed or the dungeon.

That voice telling me I was "too much" or "not enough" was never about my body or my appearance. It was about the lifetime I spent feeling different and broken and weird and out of place, and not knowing why.
