Christian Climate Action take prayerful, non-violent direct action to push for justice in this climate emergency
Love is caring about billions that a new UN report says are being affected by irreversible losses of natural water sources. It’s a justice issue - the burdens fall on the already poor and the benefits of overuse accrue to more powerful actors.

Love means taking action to #StopCrucifyingCreation

Yesterday the Stop Crucifying Creation four had their trial date set for 16 & 17 July. Three of them were at court in person, meanwhile out London group were praying for the Spirit to give them words to move the court to understand the urgency of the climate crisis that motivated their action.

Over the last few years CCA has been taking part in the Religion, Theology and Climate Change project, hosted at University of Manchester and funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. One of the sentences in their report stayed with us

Back in action, CCA Oxford joined Extinction Rebellion on Friday outside the Oxford Farming Conference. They held a Vigil for Lost Species to highlight the need for responsible farming.

Reminding the agricultural sector that they have a big part to play in addressing our climate and nature crisis.

To round off our look at 2025, we celebrate our local groups, who hold regular weekly and monthly vigils throughout the year, prayerfully calling for just and urgent action on the climate crisis. You are warmly welcome to join them. Find out when and where at christianclimateaction.org/events/

2025 review almost done

#COP30 vigils and protests in support of environmental defenders across the world, including here in UK, where Quaker Marcus Decker faced deportation despite having served his sentence for climate protest. Because in the fight for #climatejustice we are a global family.

30 people prayed outside court, while inside four CCA people pleaded not guilty to aggravated trespass for the September DON’T CRUCIFY CREATION banner drop from the tower of Bath Abbey. ‘The Church is failing to tell the truth about climate breakdown and its impact on all of us’ said Rev Bill White.

Our next look back at 2025 -
In October we worked with Wild Card to highlight the need for the Church of England to rewild 30% of its institutionally owned land to play its part in helping reverse the disastrous decline of nature in this country. This is one of our Stop Crucifying Creation demands.
January 6, 2026 at 8:22 PM
Last September, four CCA people dropped a banner from the tower of Bath Abbey as part of the launch of our Stop Crucifying Creation campaign.

They will be in court on 7th Jan on charges of aggravated trespass. Please pray for them.
Join our vigil at Bath Magistrates Court on Wednesday at 9.30am.

Looking back to warmer days. Many of us were at the Greenbelt Festival at the end of August, so we took the opportunity to remind festival goers that Barclays funds the causes of climate disasters. We hope everyone at every level takes action to bank better.

Pray with us for 2026 in words from Joan Chittister’s Prayer for Conscience and Courage

Lead us beyond fear, apathy and defensiveness to new hope in You and to hearts full of faith.
Give us the conscience it takes
to comprehend what we’re facing,
to see what we’re looking at
and to say what we see

We coordinated a letter to the government from 18 organisations, representing over 250,000 Christians, asking for #climate leadership promised in the #Labour manifesto. Still awaiting the decision on Rosebank, but it seems that the government doesn’t get how important protecting our nature is too.

In June 2025 we dropped a surprise banner at the Church of England Commissioners AGM to urge them institutionally (and individually) to bank with an ethical bank. A new report had just come out showing that the world’s largest banks had pledged $869bn to fossil fuel companies in the previous year.

May is AGM season, and we always pray and protest outside many of them. In 2025 we joined the Laudato Si’ Movement outside HSBC's AGM to protest their funding the destruction of one of the world's most biodiverse marine habitats.

We are back with our review of 2025.
Throughout the spring we visited cathedrals across the country, holding banners asking them to switch to a bank that doesn’t fund climate chaos. In April we took our banners to St Paul’s Cathedral on a day when clergy from across the diocese were gathered.

Talking Rosebank, the Climate Choir and CCA’s Three Kings returned Norway’s gifts of 250 tonnes of carbon dioxide, dead fish and hurricane damage to their Embassy. Their Government is the largest shareholder in Rosebank’s operator Equinor. You can just write to your MP to ask them to #StopRosebank

Looking back at March, on Ash Wednesday we held a No Faith In Fossil Fuels service at St John’s, Waterloo followed by a 24 hour vigil outside the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero. We prayed for the government not to give permission for the development of the North Sea Rosebank oilfield.

February action in our series looking back at 2025: Our vigil praying for Hiscox to rule out insuring fossil fuel projects, because without insurance these projects would not go ahead. Insurance companies are part of a network of enablers helping oil and gas companies to inflict climate devastation

Looking back on 2025 over the next few weeks with one action from each month

January - an overnight pilgrimage from a prison to join 1000 people who sat silently outside Royal Courts of Justice to protest extremely harsh sentences for climate protesters who break the law as a matter of conscience

Climate change drives hunger, war and migration. Our faith calls us to speak out for migrant and climate justice - alongside young adult Christians depicting the Bible scene where Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus fled to Egypt from King Herod's persecution, recreated in a contemporary refugee setting.
