My city (Lansing) could beat up YOUR city
I talk about urban things and also make graphics

So much of my energy in urbanism came from the indisputable facts that it's right, but now I feel like I'm slipping backwards by being driven more emotionally. Like "we will build beautiful monuments and create a joyous atmosphere". That's not objective! What do I do with that other than iconaltry?

I forgot to post this GIF I made, but part of me feels like I'm slipping in effectiveness. Like I used to be so much more driven to esoterically talk about "urbanism is good because math" but now I want to say "you are psychotic if you don't tear up the asphalt and free the dirt"\

Miyazaki, an artist known for his use of detail, being reduced to "ghibli is when yellow tint lol"

I have no idea who Graham Couch is other than something to do with sports, and I'm afraid to look it up at this point.

Sorry for how negative this post is, but Michigan Democrats actively work to make my state worse, every single fucking day. Walking miles home in the cold and the rain because the bus doesn't run past a certain time, on a road with no sidewalks because everything but cars is an afterthought; hatred.

Trying to figure out how to best articulate my feeling on Michigan transit, in a way that both gets my emotions out and actually helps progress. All I feel is hate. A "If you are a dem who isn't actively working for transit, I want you to be as miserable as you make me every day" kind of hate.

Ya we're at the point with Michidems where party endorsements are a negative for me Governor Whitmer I want off your wild ride
March 12, 2025 at 1:16 AM
Someone Gilchrist-pill me I don't know a single policy of any Dem governor candidates but I already know since he doesn't seem to be the designated party pick he's got something I'd support

I've always wanted to make a graph that visualizes taxable value across the city, but only recently thought to do so with a "slice".

TV/A is a city's version of a job's dollars per hour. Parks and days off don't pay, and that's fine! But we need to balance it with income.

Got my first wider aperture lens I promise I won't abuse it but not do I already want to

If Amtrak is privatized and my train ceases to exist who do I get a refund from

I had my patio door open for an hour earlier today to let in some fresh air and now it's snowing

Obviously the "plant fruit trees along the road so no one ever is hungry" people haven't thought everything through entirely, but I'd like to take that idea and spin it into a"new city beautiful" movement that's mostly there to take lanes off roads

then hearing council members cry "change nothing, all's well".
Do you really think Grand River Assembly is going to survive these tariffs?

In regards to Lansing I now I ramble to people all the time about things like financial solvency, but seriously it's insane seeing a cash strapped city with the highest taxes in the region balance it's entire economy on an industry that HATES us, which is about to tank-

I have taken like 30 pictures of this church over the past 2 years to post to Twitter for a fun fact and AWLAYS forget to post them.

Fun fact, the weirdly different lighter brick part of the church nearest to us is older than the church; it was a house eaten up by it.

In this you can see Sheridan Road to Cesar Chavez. There's a giant spike right at Cesar Chavez showing just how valuable dense, old style builds are for Lansing by a huge margin.

A screenshot of a project I just started. It's still in the ugly "collect data and convert it to pixels" phase but hopefully this should be one of my most useful graphics to date for talking about Lansing: a city wide cross section of taxable values per acre

Wow this place fucking sucks like way more than I remember

The only part I'm not super certain on is the Bay City route. I chose this alignment which requires a new connection, a river crossing, and another company, but the approach into BC is much better than the Lake State side of the river.

Going to start a series where I go over my picks for potential rail lines in detail.
First up is Detroit to Bay City, with Flint and Saginaw as the major new stops.

Friends and I had a WATCH PARTY for the address last year. If not for Rep Dylan having something tonight I wouldn't have even read the sparknotes version until tomorrow.
