like here kadet could be translated to "Cadete", but it looks lame and its unnecessary since english and portuguese share the same alphabet

i see!! my guess is because its an entirely different alphabet and phonetics, so they can either translate a character's name literally or adapt the phonetic to chinese which i assume can be done in multiple ways...? :o
