Rabbi Levi Yitzchak was Chief Rabbi of Yekaterinoslav (currently Dnipro, Ukraine), and was arrested and exiled to Kazakhstan by the Stalinist regime as a result of his work to preserve Jewish life in the Soviet Union.

Av 20 is the yahrtzeit (anniversary of the passing) of the Rebbe's father, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson (1878-1944), in Alma Ata, Kazakhstan.

They asked Rabbi Schneur Zalman, the first rebbe of Chabad:

"Which is greater: love of G-d, or love of your fellow Jew?"

"Love of your fellow Jew," he replied. "For then you love that which your Beloved loves."
Cry with them, pray for them, do everything you can for them-and then you can tell them to trust in G-d.
Keep your trust in G-d for yourself.

When things don't go so well, tell yourself it is all really for the good, and rejoice in however G-d treats you.

But when others come with their troubles, telling them they should rejoice in their afflictions can be callous and even cruel.
