Not sure how many of you are refugees from X I know or are new followers. Quick lowdown if you don't know me. I'm a hospital chaplain, a queer Lutheran, married to a trauma surgeon. Most of my posts involve medical aid and aid to Ukraine, healthcare and healthcare disinfo.
I do palliative care consults. Often my role is to tell patients and their families they are dying. I'm the grim reaper of the palliative care team.
I say DEATH. The scary word because someone has to. I sit with them in silence after that word or leave if they tell me to fuck off. It's my job.

I mean I am in fact seeking medication to treat an acute pain crisis that requires a specific protocol. Who knew we exaggerate bone met pain.

Getting real tired of seeing nurse and MD tiktokers mocking pain patients and making patient suffering the butt of jokes. Fun fact if chaplains see these and it's staff where we work. It's not just a moral obligation to report it's an ethical obligation under our board certification.

Working a trauma/ICU shift tonight. It's never good when my spouse and I are both paged to the same call. Trauma centers and modern medicine can bring people back from devastating injuries. Not always. And that's not a failure. That's life and death. That's where I come in.

Trump is afraid of death. His focus on: heaven, legacy, and increasing authoritarian powers are about controlling his terror of death. Much of what we do as humans is about controlling our fear of death. When dictators and narccicists do it they lash out in ever more horrific ways.
