Good morning #Hedgewatch Team.
Today, Spike and Valerie have an important message: pumpkins are beautiful, but not a natural food source for badgers, foxes, deer & hedgehogs and make them sick. They’ve put some suggestions on a sheet what to do instead of just leaving them outside... 😻

Spike and Valerie, dressed in orange accessories and hollowed out pumpkins saying ‘consider wildlife’ and ‘dispose of pumpkins safely’ there’s also an orange wheelie bin with ‘safe pumpkin disposal (Nana Brock will use fir soup and stew’.
HQ is in the background with Nana Brock looking out of the window with pumpkins and a saucepan on the worktop in front of her.

A chart with pumpkin do’s and don’ts:
DO:
Turn pumpkins into bird feeders; pumpkin seeds are a treat for birds;
Keep pumpkins up high to avoid hedgehogs nibbling - they can get ill;
Compost leftovers when pumpkins spoil to avoid harming wildlife.
DON’T:
Leave them in the ground, hedgehogs could eat them and get sick;
Let pumpkins rot in the garden, they can harm wildlife;
Waste your pumpkin: look out for tasty recipes for the flesh and seeds, or turn into a tasty treat for birds.
