Digging around at Birmingham Archives to learn about the history of Birmingham Botanical Gardens’ glasshouses. I was looking for connections between India and Thomas Clarke or John Jones, the manufacturer and designer but instead found Clarke’s philanthropic deeds & poetry

Poking around exquisite cottages and designer manor houses at the Wirksworth Festival. So many beautiful home studios and accomplished artists as well as the quirky Museum of Roadside Magic and kids activities to spark inspiration

Beautiful staging in the @clumberparknt glasshouse displays. The ostentatious display of dried flowers gives a nod to its history to impress guests with exotic produce and reveals the abundance of the garden and the scale of hard work that went on (and continues) behind the scenes

The extensively restored Grade II listed Conservatory and Palmhouse at Clumber Park looking stunning in its walled garden setting. The roof has over 800 panes of glass, which all had to be removed, cleaned and reused where possible, as well as addressing the significant timber rot across the frame.

Immersive, uncanny installations were a massive inspiration as an art student so it was amazing to stumble across Mike Nelson’s ‘Humpty Dumpty’ show at @fruitmarket.bsky.social
Good to see the evolution of his work w 1:1 scale photos strapped to salvaged beams, ripped stud walls & lights left bare

Imagine summarising an academic lecture on decolonising botanical gardens and polyvocal interpretation, live with almost no notes in advance, in illustrated form.
That’s just what @niftyfoxcreative did at @nottinghamtrentuni Institute of Knowledge Exchange Practice conference - an amazing talent!

A deep dive into decolonising gardens on Day 1 of the #gardens&empires conference, followed by the Unearthed exhibition at The British Library
I’m struck the quality of research but also keen to hear more on how research will involve more diverse voices and provide platforms for social change

Thirst: another beautiful, critical deep dive into a singular topic from Wellcome Collection
Artworks exploring our shared search for water, connecting crises of drought, flood & pollution across time, place & nationalities. Interesting there wasn’t one specific call to action

Maybe I shouldn’t have expected more from a collab btw Saatchi Gallery & Peugeot but using vast quantities of plastic plants to “explore the delicate systems that underpin life on Earth” is insulting to the audience. Signage saying the plastic will be reused & recycled adds to the greenwashing

How great are these Co-navigator sets? The workshop started off with personal thinking on whiteboard tiles then we built ideas together using the butterfly technique (voting w pins) and boxes to elevate the most important aspects and consider connections, barriers & aids. Much neater than post its!

Nottingham’s Broadmarsh area of wildflower planting is coming along nicely. There’s something very polished and calming about the contrast of modern and old architecture with naturalistic planting and rock slab seating

Currently reading my husband’s battered copy of “Natives: race and class in the ruins of empire” by Akala - an incredibly powerful memoir and provocation from a key voice in British culture. Easy to read, hard to stomach

This AI photo software raises so many questions at @tutankhamunexhibition…how did it know I was an adult female? How many people is this problematic for? And how do I feel coming face to face with its rendering of me as a 50 year old matriarch?

The stunning Schloss Oberhofen built on Thunersee in the early 13th century with a sympathetic cafe extension. We were too early in the season for the museum or gardens to be open but got to drink wine on the pier and swim in the crystal clear lake

Prehistoric caves in Switzerland. Interesting to see that bbqs are encouraged in the caves with tongs and tools provided next to a donation box and a picnic bench
