Sophie Gable reports that third place candidate in the recent New York mayoral race, Curtis Sliwa, claims he was offered $10 million to drop out of the race, with a view to boosting Andrew Cuomo’s chances against Zohran Mamdani. Despite this, Mamdani was elected with 50.4% of the vote .

President Isaac Herzog of Israel is scheduled to make a 2 day state visit to Zambia on November 10.
The visit follows the Zambian president’s state visit to Israel in June 2023.
The Israeli Embassy in Lusaka was reopened in August 2025 after a 52-year hiatus.

In response to labour shortages, Denmark has a new policy that welcomes more foreign workers in sectors such as hospitality. The list of countries from which these workers may come excludes the entire African continent. So much for equal opportunity!

Robert P. Burke, a retired 4 star navy admiral, has been found guilty of bribery. Burke, former vice chief of naval operations, was found guilty of steering work to a New York company in 2021 in exchange for a $500,000-a-year postretirement job.

Copper prices rose significantly on the London Metal Exchange on Tuesday, buoyed by a sharp drop in the USD. The benchmark 3 month copper contract rose 0.8% to USD9,265.50 per metric tonne, briefly reaching USD9,319.50 the highest level since April 4, 2025.

Namibia’s government has announced visa reform measures designed to demonstrate the value of reciprocity in international affairs.

Americans must now obtain entry visas, a shift from the previous visa-free regime. Over 500 Americans will be deported if they don't comply with the new law.

Reuters reports that OPEC has revised its global oil demand growth forecast for 2025 downward by 150,000 barrels per day, citing weaker-than-expected first-quarter data and the impact of U.S. trade tariffs. OPEC now projects global economic growth at 3%, down from its previous estimate of 3.1%

Yahoo Finance reports that Zambia will resume construction of a USD320 million power line project connecting its electricity grid with East Africa. The project, expected to be completed in 2028, will enhance regional energy trade and improve electricity supply.

Adam Lynch of AlterNet suggests that 75% of 179 Venezuelans sitting in prison by virtue of the Alien Enemies Act may have no criminal records at all. And most of the 22% who do have criminal records, were convicted for non-violent offenses like theft, shoplifting and trespassing.

With recent talk about the US giving land to "victimised" White farmers from South Africa, it may be useful to recall a precedent from Zambia. In 2005 then President Levy Mwanawasa granted refugee status to 200 white Zimbabwean farmers.
