Small part of W3 (molecular cloud associated with IC 1795)

#JWST NIRCam image (F300M, F335M, F405N) I used F405N for green, which maps Brackett-alpha (hydrogen emission).

Trying something new: #JWST MIRI IFU (spectroscopy and image in one) of the galactic center. On the right are three emission lines of various elements.

The red circle indicates the position of the supermassive black hole (Sgr A*, position from SIMBAD) #SgrA
Left image shows brown clouds and stars with wide artificial filters. The right image shows artificial narrow filters with a colorful image of blue, yellow, green and red.

Mystery put to rest by PI Adam Ginsburg - Due to technical difficulties in 2024, the second half of this MIRI observation was postponed for a year. @astroryan.bsky.social @melina-iras07572.bsky.social

We added some nice features to our JWST Search interface. HST rolling out in next couple months, along with more goodies.

Feature update: we've added album previews to our JWST Search interface! Also included with our update is a Light/Dark mode toggle. archive.stsci.edu/contents/new...
The JWST image preview feature; seven images are displayed in a grid.

Excellent! Thanks for this confirmation, Ryan. I may ask PI Ginsburg if he can release the new data, considering it's already been published in RGB.

I took another look...the left half was only just observed on 2025-09-02. This must have been for the press release - to expand the MIRI image and fit the NIRCam width. Thus the year long moratorium. Mystery solved!
cheribliss.bsky.social
I looked for it, too, but never thought to examine the unreleased data. Strange to hold back half the image.

Thank you, Melina. The fit to NIRCam was so perfect in the scroll-over, I couldn't figure it out.

I looked, too, but didn't think to examine unreleased data. I'm happy to know I'm not missing the full MIRI views.

I'm curious about this MIRI image released last week.

The left side of the press image is far wider than Level 3 data perimeters. Does ~40% more data exist in the lower levels for MIRI/IMAGE observations? I've superimposed my processing on right to illustrate the difference.
