Software engineer. Loves the cars you hate. Imported from Detroit.
Company's AI bot direct-messages me on chat to remind me that it exists, and I'm having to grab my own fist and shove it back down to my side like Dr. Strangelove to stop myself from telling it shove a chair up its ass.

I am historically lazy as well as a storied lardass, so I have surprised even myself with how much I have been enjoying going to the gym on the weekends.

Using that time to binge watch all 20 seasons of Law & Order's original run probably has something to do with it.

Pretty hard to miss this one in the parking lot.

New year, new stuff for the Challenger: AGM battery, cabin air filter, orange Dodge "war paint" logo dust mats, and a fresh wash. Also oiled the squeaky center console lid, finally. All set for cruising during the long weekend--weather looks to be perfect.

My employer keeps sending simulated phishing emails to try and trip us up. They're always about some new benefit we're purportedly getting.

I've become conditioned to believe that if the company says they're doing something nice for us, it must be a scam.

RAM prices are so high (thanks AI, and thanks corrupt DRAM consortium) that the already insane cost of PC video cards is set to more than double over the next couple of months. RTX 5090 going from $2K to as much as $5K.

I feel like my current PC needs a life insurance policy. I'm fucked if it dies.

Every time Windows Hello asks me to authenticate, it picks a different method. What'll it be this time? Fingerprint? PIN? Password? Who knows! The entire operating system is a giant fucking race condition and Microsoft doesn't care.

The games that most interest me in Steam sales these days are the quirky VNs and narrative adventures and sims made by small teams. Stuff like Signalis, 1000xResist, Dispatch, Selaco, Easy Delivery Co., et al.

I'm not sure that management's message of "we got so much accomplished this year that we can't believe it, BTW next year is going to be just as bad and we expect you to use AI instead of asking us to hire more people" was the kind of holiday morale booster leadership hoped it was.

What shall I call this? Smokey and the Gladiator? Jeep Y84 special edition?

Three hours into this meeting now. Please kill me.

Real ones know that neither Calibri nor Times New Roman are cool. We need to go ALL the way back to the 1970s and start using IBM Letter Gothic again. Typed on an actual IBM Selectric typewriter.

Saw a news story about a healthy man who had a stroke because he was doing 8 energy drinks a day to stay alert at his job. The media's take is "We need to be more aware of the impact of these drinks!" My take is "Why does work crush people so hard they need 1,600 mg of caffeine a day to keep up?"

Microsoft has done just about everything possible to get on my bad side this past year, but I gotta say, SQL Server Management Studio 22 is the cat's meow. It's about time this venerable old tool got some real love.

Yesterday I saw a Kia Forte with a Mass Effect "N7" badge in the lower right corner of the deck lid. This was a real badge, not a decal--it looked like something the manufacturer would put on. Nice touch.

I've never felt so strongly that I am trapped on a prison planet.

This past spring, I added 32 GB of 6400 DDR5 RAM to my computer for $119. Now that same kit is over $400.

I hear AI datacenters are clamoring for as much as 60% of the world's total DRAM production capacity.

In the future, you'll use AI because it'll be the only computer available.

Weird to see the original Law & Order opening titles from season one (1990) where they literally go on for almost a full minute and a half and uses a long, bluesy, drawn-out take of the main theme.

Then you look at a recent season from one of the spinoffs and they've condensed it into < 30 seconds.

Really, really strong urge to just check out and walk away today.

Beautiful fall day, 69 degrees and sunny. Good day for an open sunroof and the annual state inspection.

Some days, going to work is like consenting to have nails pounded into my extremities while being ordered by management not to scream.

I never noticed until last weekend's rewatch of Halloween II that Nurse Karen (who gets her face boiled off in the scalding hydrotherapy tub) is played by Pamela Susan Shoop, who was also Maggie in the Knight Rider pilot AND Marta from the Knight Rider fourth season premiere!

During spooky season 28 years ago, a friend brought over a copy of Halloween (1978) and I watched it for the first time. Now it (and its 1981 sequel) are two of my favorite horror movies of all time.

Having just watched them again tonight, my opinion hasn't changed.

Why are diamond-shaped windows in doors so creepy? Especially institutional ones...

Been limping along with ancient routers for a long time and finally found a decent deal for an upgrade.

Still not gonna pay WiFi 7 prices, but this should suffice for a good while.
