On day 8 of our Administration, @governor.ny.gov and I announced the beginning of universal childcare in NYC.โ€ฏNo longer will New Yorkers be forced to choose between starting a family and continuing to live in the city they love. This only happened because of you.

can't wait to see a certain section of the Internet have a total meltdown over this completely normal and wholesome moment
This morning, Ms. Rachel and I visited District 2 Pre-K Center, where we sang and read with the wonderful students and educators. We also discussed universal childcare - and how we're making it happen for NYC!

AOC: โ€œI understand that VP Vance believes shooting a young mother of three in the face three times is an acceptable America that he wants to live in, & I do not โ€” That is a fundamental difference between VP Vance & I โ€” I do not believe the American people should be assassinated in the streetโ€

Hell, look at figure skating - it's *perceived* as a "gay" sport, but as Adam Rippon has shown us, the perception of outsiders doesn't match the reality of how figure skating actually is
January 9, 2026 at 5:16 PM
I haven't seen it yet, but tbqh I think this is still pretty true of sports in general. Hockey IME leans on the more conservative side in this regard, but I don't think it's fundamentally that different in most other sports
January 9, 2026 at 5:15 PM
like, if anything, the show is way too *optimistic* about how being gay would be treated (which makes sense, given that it's fiction and the genre)
January 9, 2026 at 4:52 PM
that's also extremely accurate for hockey though

I'm genuinely not sure there exists another city where you could attempt this and even have a shot at finishing.

The level of ethnic diversity NYC has even within its diasporic communities is unparalleled.
Best TikTok thing going is the two dudes trying food from every country without leaving NYC. If you havenโ€™t seen them yet, itโ€™s incredible. My favorite so far is last weekโ€™s. Legit got me emotional.

Great piece about how gutting Section 230 will hurt marginalized people and help Big Tech www.losangelesblade.com/2026/01/08/r...
Repeal now, regret later: Section 230 is up for elimination, and itโ€™s not the platforms who will pay the price
As lawmakers seek to repeal Section 230, one must ask, what does this mean for adult content creators, their consumers, and the platforms that bridge the two?

New York is limited by only what you want to find. Itโ€™s a magical place if youโ€™re open to it.
New York is diverse on a level that I have found it's hard to explain to someone who has lived in (e.g.) Europe their entire life and never traveled elsewhere.

I can cite statistics but they're so outside the realm of the familiar to people that they are too abstract to hold meaning.

but also, yes, there are literally two Georgian spots in my neighborhood alone, and it's not even an Eastern European neighborhood - it just happens to have them

I'm talking globally, not just the US! Even most other "cosmopolitan" cities don't have a fraction of the diasporas that NYC does

need more cosmopolitan chauvinism imo. to be able to go to a world city and do this without crossing a border is something you should be proud of, it means you're a great country. To want to tear it down means you are inbred provincial hog with no greater drives than envy and fear.

One could read it as an attempt to shore up his credibility with the leftier parts of the district - "look, I paid respect to the DSA and made an effort".

It's a very different strategy from ignoring them and using them as a foil so that he can push more to the center.
January 8, 2026 at 10:12 PM
If anything, the fact that Reynoso is making an attempt despite Clare Valdez having such strong DSA ties is a signal that he recognizes the DSA as a meaningful political force to be engaged with, a bloc that can't be disregarded or ignored.
January 8, 2026 at 10:10 PM
Regardless of the outcome, it's pretty astonishing to see that *both* leading candidates in NY-7 are eagerly vying for the DSA endorsement.

This would have been unthinkable even a decade ago.
Next week's DSA endorsement forum will feature *both* Assembly Member Claire Valdez and Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso.

Valdez is clearly the DSA candidate in the race and will almost certainly get the socialist group's endorsement, but Reynoso still wants a chance to make his case.

This victory is all because of Our Time - and by proxy Zohran Mamdani, and the countless people who organized around this.

When we fight, we win.

And we've only just begun!
January 8, 2026 at 6:27 PM
Hochul is the one announcing it because she's the governor and she's the gatekeeper of the budget, but the credit for this lies 100% with Zohran Mamdani and the countless people who lobbied their legislators and the governor this last week through the Our Time organizing campaign.
January 8, 2026 at 6:25 PM
Zohran Mamdani has only been the mayor for one week and already he's delivering on one of his three core campaign promises, AND it's going to apply to the entire state not just the city.

Stay winning!
The goal of the multiyear plan, which Ms. Hochul is expected to introduce alongside the mayor in an appearance Thursday morning and will be a part of her State of the State address on Jan. 13, would be to offer universal access to children statewide, her office said.
