On here: mostly photography. Elsewhere: Created @QLab.app, and building the @Voxel.org theater in Baltimore.
It’s a misconception that ADHDers have trouble being productive. We are often incredibly productive. But there is no power on heaven or earth that can predict what, exactly, will be produced by the end.

"She'd LOVE that ship."

"I know. She loves ANY ship that's gay."

"It's not just GAY. It's DOOMED."

i didn't run in the Baltimore Running Festival today because I didn't train for it and I wasn't sure I could do it safely.

but i HAVE been running a lot this year, so I did my own run. I figured that way I could stop at any time.

anyway, i ran my first half marathon today, and that feels real nice

my wife and i have recently come to the conclusion that the secret to understanding New Yorker cartoons is to become middle aged, around which time they mysteriously become hilarious instead of puzzling. no i can not really explain this further.

lying in bed for 4 hours with your stomach a churning knot of anxiety snakes is probably *almost* as good as sleeping, right?

i took an electrical safety class a few weeks ago in which the teacher encouraged us to frame a good electrician as someone who know hows to manage heat

and in that light i am now thinking of a good government as one that knows how to manage & abate conflict (including its own)

if i could pick one thing for people without ADHD to understand about ADHD it would be how the importance of something does not translate to us being able to prioritize it

In Terry Pratchett's "I Shall Wear Midnight", the young witch Tiffany Aching tends to a dying man by taking his pain. To do so, she holds it in the form of an invisible spinning ball that she must balance carefully over her shoulder until she can redirect it. I think about this a lot recently.

The family of my teammate Siobhán first experienced the loss of their neighborhood to wildfire, and now, additionally, the terrorizing of their community by their own government.
Hey, friends. You might remember that my kids' school PTA morphed into a mutual aid group after the Eaton Fire, & I'm writing in that capacity rn. Our community was already hard hit before the ICE escalation in LA, and now a dad was disappeared on Friday.

Although they're not fully orthogonal; low craft often turns a personal piece into a self-indulgent one.
Often this is muddied by craft, which is a necessary but orthogonal axis. So what I really want is high craft & specific personal vision. Commercial theater is often high craft but low vision, indie theater can be high vision but lower or inconsistent craft. And a lot is both low vision & low craft.

As an artist, what audience are you imagining? Just yourself? A few people? Many?

What obligations do you have to them, if any? Which audience do you care about most?

How do the answers to these questions affect how artists make art? Does your favorite artist have clear answers to these questions?

in my heart i think i still believe that the world of humans can still be gentle and sweet. that this option is always sitting right there, right in front of us. but right now it takes a certain kind of focus and attention and mindfulness to keep that flame lit

my philosophic arc has been gently pessimistic — these days believing that it's harder to make things get better than it is to make them get worse, but trying not to be obnoxious about it — but as a kid, gosh, i was so earnest about believing that compassion and thinking and gentleness would prevail

a 1 second slice of today at the Flying Horses Carousel — the oldest operating carousel in the United States. IMO the best part of it is the music from the 1923 Wurlitzer organ.

do you prefer the color or the black and white?

a few minutes ago i picked up a hitchhiker on Martha's Vineyard. he told me that there is a law here since the 1600s that you can walk on any private land as long as you're holding a fishing rod or a fowling piece (shotgun)

"i can walk through all these billionaire's lands if i have this rod"
