I'm so tempted by this one

I love how using Linux is like a mind virus, and once it has you, you are compelled to tell everyone else about it

Speaking of, switch to #Linux it's great

With the EA acquisition I implore you, nay, I *beg* please no matter how much you like their video games do NOT install any of their games with anti cheat

That shit is terrifying and no one knows what it's actually doing

Will teach #Linux to strangers 4 free hmu

Speaking from experience for work stuff, official Forticlient is borked to all hell lol

HOWEVER the default KDE network settings has configurable VPN options, Forticlient being one of them it's what I use instead and it's way more seamless

Man I am so sick of everything getting enshittified by AI slop
chris.at.kizaing.ca
Ahaha fair

I find snap is usually the culprit, it makes a lot of things go weird, and it's way easier just to use a different distro than it is to rip snap out Ubuntu
chris.at.kizaing.ca
Yeah agreed, I tried ubuntu again after a number of years of not using it and I was shocked at how buggy it is so much stuff just didn't work correctly
chris.at.kizaing.ca
No problem! Hope that helps :)

Mildly annoying but pretty easy fix

If you right click on the title bar of the app and go to More Actions->Configure Special Window Settings

And then click Add property and add Desktop file name

You can manually specify the command/desktop file and it'll grab the icon correctly

God this really sums it up perfectly, there isn't a great way to explain it. I know its bad and it makes me feel gross to see it so prevalent, but tons of people like it and I struggle to articulate to them why it's bad exactly
chris.at.kizaing.ca
It's come such a long way. During the KDE 4 days if you had told me Plasma would be one of the best desktops I probably laughed at you, but it's so good now

Would any of you be willing to help me share this please?

Perks of having a puppy: you can rant to them about your hyperfixations 😂

Oh I doubt that privacy thing is relevant currently lol, that ticket was closed 5 years ago, since there was no proof it was doing that, so I don't think using etcher is an issue
chris.at.kizaing.ca
Balena Etcher is a pretty decent one for most cases

Fedora also has one, but it's specifically for Fedora and all the spins
chris.at.kizaing.ca
Tbh I haven't had too many issues with selinux, but yeah it is something you have to learn a bit when those problems arise haha

But it's only been a couple of things for me over the years
chris.at.kizaing.ca
Oh totally fair! I stuck to mostly Ubuntu based distros for a long time because it was what I knew, but now adays I'm familiar with a couple different distros so I can flip flop between them haha
chris.at.kizaing.ca
Ubuntu based for desktop is fine but I always found it so interesting for people to run straight Debian as a desktop OS haha, it is more geared for servers and it's packages are so ooolllld

Arch is neat, I really like the AUR but I find it's prone to breaking semi frequently haha
